LONDON.- Rosebery Fine Art auctioneers are delighted to present “From the Royal Exchange, Snow Effect” by British artist Ken Howard RA, at the forthcoming December Fine Art sale held on 1 & 2 December 2015.

Born in 1932 in London artist Ken Howard studied at Hornsey College of Art between 1949 – 53.

Two years later, after fulfilling his duties in the National Service, he restarted his studies with a place at Royal College of Art in 1955 where, he continued until 1958. In that same year he won a British Council Scholarship to Florence. This trip was the first in his career of extensive travels as an artist. In 1973 and 1978 he was the Official War Artist to Northern Ireland, and 1973–80 worked in various locations, including Hong Kong, Cyprus and Canada with the British Army.

Howard was elected a Royal Academician (RA) in 1991 and was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours. Howard continues to paint to this day, exhibiting with Richard Green Gallery in 2011.

Howard, has spoken of his passion for the horizontal and vertical linear aspects to making a painting which is clear to see in his “Self Portrait with Fantin Latour”.

Howard discussing his paintings “For me painting is about three things. It is about revelation, communication and celebration. By revelation I mean giving people a way of seeing, revealing the world around them in a way they have never seen before, opening their eyes. By communication I mean revealing the world with a personal language, speaking directly in an instantly recognisable style. My last criterion, celebration, is perhaps more difficult to explain. We all suffer in our lives, we lose loved ones, We suffer illnesses and the stresses and strains of normal life. But I want art to raise me above that, when I look at painting I want it to be elevating, I want it to celebrate life…”
