Bruce Museum in Greenwich adds Corinne Flax to education staff, fills critical position

Corinne Flax Has Joined the Bruce Museum as Manager of School/Community Partnerships.

GREENWICH, CONN.- Corinne Flax has joined the Bruce Museum Education Department as Manager of School/Community Partnerships. Ms. Flax has an M.A. from Bank Street in Museum Education, and has broad experience in the field, including managing the interactive play space at MoMA, working as a New York Transit Museum educator, and guiding visitors through the galleries at the Guggenheim. Most recently, Ms. Flax was Senior Educator in the Education Department of Wave Hill in the Bronx, where she developed curriculum, forged partnerships with schools and supervised training of new educators and interns.

“Education is a critical part of our mission here at the Bruce,” says Susan Ball, Deputy Director of the Museum. “Last year alone we reached more than 15,000 students through our on-site and outreach education programs. In addition to reaching a large number of students, we aim to develop lasting and meaningful partnerships with as many schools and community organizations as we can. For example, this year we established the Cos Cob Science Days with Cos Cob Elementary School, a three-day program which focused on topics such as the exploration of Long Island Sound habitats, examination of rocks and minerals, and investigation of owl pellets. Our Bruce Museum educators worked with every student at Cos Cob Elementary -- more than 500 students -- over the course of the three day program. We are delighted to have Corinne on board, and know that her unique perspective and experience will be a big help as we develop our current educational partnerships like the one with Cos Cob Elementary and forge new ones.”

“Working in education has always been a part of my life,” says Corinne Flax, “ever since I first worked as a camp counselor in Chester, Connecticut. I’m excited to join the Bruce Museum, and look forward to the year ahead.”
