PERTH.- Perth’s largest and much-loved annual outdoor sculpture exhibition Sculpture by the Sea returns to Cottesloe Beach from 6-23 March 2015.

Now in its 11th year, Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe will feature works from over 70 artists from across the world, along with homegrown local and interstate sculptors.

Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe is one of Perth’s largest free to the public events, stretching along the white sands and grassed terraces of Cottesloe beach overlooking the Indian Ocean.

This year’s exhibition includes works from some of the world’s most distinguished artists including China’s Wang Shugang and Chen Wenling, who is best known for his striking red, larger than life naked male figures painted head to toe in shiny, blistering red car duco. Controversial artist David Cĕrny from the Czech Republic is exhibiting his giant baby sculptures that will be one of the crowd pleasers at the 2015 show.

The curatorial panel who selected the artists for Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2015 from nearly 300 submissions is:

• Winthrop Professor Ted Snell AM, Director, Cultural Precinct at University of Western Australia and former Chair, Visual Arts Board, Australia Council for the Arts;

• Dr Michael Hill, Head of Art History & Theory, National Art School;

• Julienne Penny, Director, Tunbridge Gallery; and

• Dr Nien Schwarz, Artist, Senior Lecturer, School of Communication & the Arts, Edith Cowan University

Thirty-two artists in this year’s Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe are from Western Australia including Kevin Draper, Tim Burns, Jen Cochrane and Lou Lambert, while Western Australian, Tim MacFarlane Reid will become only the third member of the Decade Club to have exhibited 10 times in the 11 years of the exhibition.

An estimated 220,000 people are expected to converge on Cottesloe Beach during the 18 day exhibition, from serious art-lovers and collectors to members of the general public looking to enjoy the sculptures whilst enjoying the sun, sea and sand at Perth’s most popular beach.
