For its ninth year, the festival will continue to showcase design's various applications and multidisciplinary relationship through design: furniture, architecture, graphics, textile... A wide range of quality events offered by many independent associations and organisations will add to the cultural component of Design September; exhibitions, conferences, a design market, a Pecha Kucha, visits of studios of Brussels-based designers, ... Like every year, a large number of emerging creators will be taking part in this urban circuit. Throughout the month, participating stores, pop-up stores and iconic design flagship stores will stage a brand and/or a designer and its new products in a particular fashion. For the second year, Commerce Design Brussels will be presented in synergy with Brussels Design September. A professional jury selected on 24th April 2014 six winners and ambassadors from more than 50 registered projects. Frédérique Coomans, Sabine Herman, Aurore de Heusch, Raphaël Charles, Pascal Breucker have already confirmed their participation. Other designers will complete this first selection that will inevitably grow over time.
Young designers
Sweet Life will present an exhibition of Caroline Gomez' work at the Fabrika; her work is rooted in daily life, present time, with emphasis on its purposes and pleasures. The "Cruso" designer, the new Belgian publishing house, worked in collaboration with Jean François d'Or and students from ENSAV La Cambre; This year, "Dialogue" will exhibit young Belgian creators who are in dialogue with more established Belgian designers; the Dyson Design Awards will be shown at Smets; the Academy of Fine Arts will present more than 3 events (exhibitions, pop-up shop, workshop, conference) with its students and will be the opportunity to discover many other young designers.
From young to toddlers
The Prototype agency organises a Pop-up shop design for kids at the Garage to enjoy together with Chouchou, Mikado and Mini Archi. And this year, children will once again be able to discover design during a workshop made just for them: "Design for kids" at the Atomium organised by Grand-Hornu Images
Experience, a living design
Designers are increasingly focusing on experience design, living design. Design is drawn, produced, created, sold, and it must be lived. Interactions between objects and humans are becoming increasingly important because we want to live an experience with each use. Design is not only a process, a creation, something useful, a way of thinking, a strategy but also a feeling that is sometimes totally surprising or unusual. This year, MAD Brussels, official partner of Brussels Design September, will organise a MAD Bike show! It is an event that brings people together, both trendy and professional. Focused on urban mobility, it will honour the "bike culture" via G bike exhibitions, demonstrations, professional meetings, exhibitors of bikes and accessories etc...
Géraldine Calbert and Hophopstudio have always shared similar states of mind (Upcycling, geometry, marquetry, poetry...), and have decided to come together to create a brand new studio named "Hopstudio" where they create living design, furniture and objects that are both unique and poetic in a global universe in constant interaction with the audience.
Those interested will be able to take part in workshops at "Workshop Libre Objet" and "Niyona's Workshop", or to enjoy lunch in the studio of Marina Bautier "Vendredi Ma". The festival will end at the Recyclart (creative platform with a "Closing Party").
