Contemporary Art in China Today
Hangzhou, China: September 3 6, 2013
This exciting four-day course provides an understanding of the latest developments in contemporary art in China today. Through lectures and exclusive visits to artists studios and local museums, participants gain insight into the background and practice of art in China across a range of media such as ink painting and printmaking. Covering art forms that are unique to Chinese culture as well as recent trends in art practice pursued by the emergent generation of artists, this course is designed for those seeking to increase their knowledge and understanding of the structures, techniques and cultural contexts of contemporary Chinese art. Lectures offer a brief background of twentieth-century art in China while the primary focus is on recent developments over the past decade. The course is led by Katie Hill, a lecturer at Sothebys Institute of Art for the Masters programme in East Asian Art and the online course in Contemporary Chinese Art. The site visits take place in and around the China Academy of Art, which was founded in 1928 in Hangzhou and is today considered one of the most influential fine art academies in China.
