NEW YORK, NY.- Sotheby’s selling exhibition Keith Haring: Shine On will be installed in its S|2 galleries from 30 March–23 April 2012. Works across a wide range of mediums in which the artist worked – including canvases, tarps, sculpture, found objects and works on paper – will be on view and available for private sale, with music and guests meant to evoke Haring’s time at Club 57 and the Pop Shops that he opened in New York and Tokyo. Sotheby’s is pleased to share that Haring’s longtime friend and collaborator Fab 5 Freddy has contributed an introduction essay to the exhibition catalogue, and will be visiting the S2 galleries throughout the show.

The show falls at a time of great interest in the artist, with the Brooklyn Museum’s exhibition Keith Haring: 1978 – 1982 is currently on view, as well as the new auction record for a sculpture by the artist that was set at Sotheby’s New York in November 2011 by Haring’s monumental work Untitled from 1986, which achieved $1.8 million in the Contemporary Art Evening Auction (est. $1/1.5 million).

Haring’s monumental tarps come to market only rarely, and Shine On will offer a total of three for private sale, including Untitled and Untitled, 1982 (pictured at top) that both span nearly 8’ by 8’. The exhibition will also include several works that, while not available for sale, are incredibly rare and show the artist’s work in unusual mediums and forms: two excellent examples of masks that Haring created in a series of eight will be on view, one of which has never has never been on public exhibition, as well as a crib that Haring dedicated to Juan, his first love.
