Annual Non-Members Photograpy and Graphics Exhibition at the Salmagundi Club

NEW YORK, NY.- The Salmagundi Club announced the opening of its Annual Non-Member Photography and Graphics Exhibition on Monday, June 15, 2009. This highly competitive fine art exhibition includes works by photographers and graphics artists from all over the country. The exhibit will run through Friday, June 26, in the Main Gallery, and will be open to the public daily, 1:00 to 6:00 PM.

The work submitted was outstanding this year, especially in the photography field; the photographs outnumbered graphics submissions by approximately 5 to 1. The extremely high quality of submissions made selection for this exhibition particularly difficult. The Club accepted both digital and traditional photography, and is proud to present both the new and old side by side. There were more black and white submissions this year compared to the last 2-3 years, when color totally dominated, which indicates that traditional photographic techniques persist. Photographs range from traditional still lives, portraits, scenic and industrial landscapes, classic New York City vignettes to the latest in digital imagery. The number of both subtly and obviously digitally manipulated images portends a growing trend in the use of digital imagery for artistic expression.

In the graphics field there are drawings, pen and inks, etchings, wood- and linoleum-cuts. From nationally recognized to upcoming artists, their work shows the originality and masterful techniques possible with the various graphic arts mediums. Several of the graphics artists have participated in this exhibition before, and the high quality of their etchings and wood block prints reflects special adeptness in this challenging medium.

What makes the Salmagundi Club's Non-Member Exhibitions uniquely attractive to artists is that they offer cash prize awards in eleven categories. Also, these exhibits offer artists the opportunity to be considered for membership, as their works are carefully reviewed and selected by the Club's professional artist members. Most of the photographs and graphics pieces will be for sale with prices ranging from $150 to $3000.
