Wexner Center Heralds the Start of Baseball Season with &th Year of Rare Baseball Films

COLUMBUS, OH.- For the sixth year, the Wexner Center presents Rare Films from the Baseball Hall of Fame to commemorate the beginning of a new baseball season. This year’s edition, put together by Wexner film curator Dave Filipi, screens Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11 at 7 PM. Included in this year’s program of rarely seen gems is a 1959 visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame; highlights of the 1954 World Series between Cleveland and New York; a clip of J. Edgar Hoover singing Happy Birthday to Washington owner Clark Griffith; and footage of Roy Campanella, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays, and Babe Ruth. Filipi will introduce the screenings and provide a cultural and historical context for the many clips in the program.

Filipi notes: “It is always a highlight of the spring to present this program. The films are not only fascinating historical artifacts, but also wonderful reminders of all there is to love about our national pastime.”
