Finnish Artist Shows Installation in the Zuiderzee Museum
Anu Tuominen, Against the light.

ENKHUIZEN.- As part of the sixtieth anniversary, the contemporary Finnish artist Anu Tuominen designed an installation of everyday objects for the Zuiderzee Museum. Against The Light is on display in 11 Zoutkamp, one of the premises in the Museum Park.

By means of a variety of objects, Anu Tuominen shows the simplicity of daily life in a melancholy way. The installation is a network of forms, materials, functions. The objects she uses resemble one another, yet they are not identical. Beauty is the central theme. The name of the installation is derived from the incidence of light that strikes against white and dark objects and that comes from the past as well as from the future.

In her work Tuominen collects countless jumble treasures, combined, transformed, put in a row, joined and classified in all areas of our daily visual world. Apart from visual material, she also works with language, visual idioms and metaphors. Time and again Tuominen demonstrates relentlessly how small things can be big and beautiful, but particularly special and full of joy. Her work presents a world, our own universe, the past world of our grandparents and the future world of our children, seen just under the surface.

Against The Light is part of the anniversary event. The Zuiderzee Museum is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary with a comprehensive event illustrating the new course of the Museum. This renewed Museum demonstrates interrelationships, reaches out into the world and shows all aspects of the Low Countries: art, culture, design, heritage and history. A large number of renowned artists, designers and guest curators are adding lustre to the occasion with their exhibitions, installations, works of art or activities. Among them are Studio Job, Atelier Van Lieshout, Hugo Kaagman, Royal Tichelaar, Dick Hauser, Martin Bril, Gross. Max. and Piet Oudolf.

The anniversary event is currently running in the Museum proper, the Museum Park and the area of natural beauty.
