College Students Enjoy Affordable Year-round Admission to Portland Art Museum

PORTLAND.- As schools prepare to return to session, the Portland Art Museum looks forward to providing college students another year of admission for just $10. The College Student Pass offers a year’s access to the educational resources, galleries and special exhibitions at the Museum for the regular price of a single adult admission ticket. The Pass can be purchased by any college or university student and is valid September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009. During the last school year, 1,151 Passes were issued; the Museum hopes to exceed that number this year.

The College Student Pass, first available in fall 2006, was developed to expand access to the Portland Art Museum ’s resources for all college students. The Museum offers students an in-depth, first-hand educational experience through its extensive permanent collections, changing exhibitions and diverse lectures and programs. The Museum is also home to the Anne and James F. Crumpacker Family Library, a unique and comprehensive resource containing more than 33,000 volumes on art history.

Events at the Museum this fall are sure to engage visiting students. In September, Curator Annette Dixon will discuss Rembrandt’s innovative approach to printmaking (Sept. 21), and a gallery talk by Tacoma artist Marc Dombrosky will illuminate his current APEX installation (Sept. 28). In October, the Museum will celebrate the opening of Wild Beauty: Photographs of the Columbia River Gorge, 1867-1957 (Oct. 4 – Jan. 11, 2009). This exclusive exhibition will be accompanied by a variety of programs and lectures by scholars from across the nation. Contemporary exhibitions by artists such as Jonathan Lasker and MK Guth will present fresh perspectives for students. Additionally, tours of exhibitions and the Museum’s permanent collection are scheduled for nearly every day.

The College Student Pass can be purchased during regular business hours at the Museum box office at any time during the year with valid student identification. Some special exhibition fees may apply. Students are required to present their school identification card and College Student Pass each time they visit the Portland Art Museum .
