LIVONIA, MI.- The latest exhibit hosted in Madonna University’s Gallery, represents the work of three area artists – Josephine Primeau from Royal Oak, EE Berger of Detroit, and Theodore Marolla whose studio’s in Ferndale.

A multimedia photographic display features Marolla’s photographs highlighted by structural drawings, Primeau’s images of paint encrustations recount her cultural productions, and Berger’s photographic stories or visual trips. A special reception and lecture by Marolla, Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 3:30 in the gallery.

“A photograph only captures the surface of what exists in front of the lens,” said Marolla The image isn’t made up only of what the eye can see, thousands of layers help to construct the image below the surface.”

Free, and open to the public, the exhibition closes Friday, Dec. 21.

Over the years, Primeau scraped and reserved the unused paint from her palette onto pieces of wood. Her digital photographs of these autobiographical touchstones enable her to create prints that function as personal repositories of memories, and metaphors for the ecology of cultural production.

Born and raised in Holly, Mich., EE Berger moved to Detroit at 21, where she runs the Detroit photography collective, and corresponding White Wall Gallery. “Making photographs that hold a story within the frame, that each person can interpret differently, allows me to address a wider audience,” Berger said.
