Students & Public Assemble Paper Sculptures for Exhibit

EAST LANSING, MI.- The Art Museum at Michigan State University is hosting The Paper Sculpture Show, organized by Independent Curators International, through October 14, 2007.

This unique interactive exhibition gives visitors to the museum a chance to become part of the art-making process as they "complete the artworks" by cutting out and assembling the sculptures created for the exhibition by 29 artists.

Over the first four weeks of this exhibition, MSU students, faculty, and the general public have completed the assembly of over 100 various paper sculptures, which are all on display in the Art Museum. As more people have completed work, the gallery is filling up with individual variations of the sculptures.

This Friday, Sept 28, from 6 p.m. until midnight, students and the public are invited to visit the Art Museum during special late night hours. From 9 p.m. to midnight, comes listen to electronic music by DJ Jeff Owens (Ghostly International/Bloom) as you assemble paper sculptures in the museum. A variety of other art-centric activities will be taking place elsewhere in the Kresge Art Center that night, at the Arts Blitz, a part of Year of Arts and Culture programming coordinated and supported by the Art Museum, Department of Art and Art History, and the College of Arts and Letters.

On Thursday, October 4, at 5:30 p.m., the Art Museum will host a gallery walk of The Paper Sculpture Show with trained docents available to assist with the assembly of the paper sculptures.

Sunday, October 7, (first Sunday), the Friends of The Art Museum will host a Paper Sculpture Show “Nearly-Closing” Reception from 3:00–5:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and the public is encouraged to attend to take advantage of this last chance to assemble paper sculptures for the exhibition, which closes on October 14.

The Art Museum at MSU is located within Kresge Art Center , at the intersection of Physics and Auditorium Roads between the Alumni Chapel and the MSU Auditorium on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing , MI . Museum hours are Monday through Friday, 10 to 5 p.m., Thursday until 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For additional information, call (517) 355-7631 or visit www.artmuseum.msu.edu.
