MIAMI BEACH.- Extraordinary forms of expression are on display at ArtCenter/ South Florida (“ASCF”) when REVERIE + REVOLT opens on October 19, 2007 at the ACSF gallery, 800 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, and runs through November 18, 2007. The exhibition comprises the works of several contemporary artists using the medium of collage, the long-established technique of combining found elements, printed paper, cut magazine and book illustrations, photographs and an assortment of other commonplace material and elements. The public is invited to attend a free opening reception at the gallery on Friday, October 26, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at 800 Lincoln Road at Meridian Avenue .

“Reverie & Revolt is an exciting exhibition. The viewer will appreciate the varied images and references found in the artists’ collages – ranging from abstract, to subtle, to overt – and in so doing will walk away with a greater understanding of the artist and our culture,” says Jeremy Chestler, Executive Director, ACSF.

The show is being curated by Jane Hart, founder of lemon sky projects + editions in Miami Beach , and Curator of Exhibitions at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood. REVERIE + REVOLT features the work of Rakel Bernie and Eurydice, both artists-in-residence at the ArtCenter/South Florida, as well as ArtCenter alumnus Pepe Mar. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the work of the internationally-recognized Miami natives, the TM Sisters (whose work appears on the cover of the September 2007 issue of ARTNews). The artists, including TJ Ahearn, Kara Blossom, Paul Butler, Matthew Cusick, Tami Demaree, Dan Fauci, Christopher Haun, Dick Jewel, Kelly Lamb, Gean Moreno, Lori Precious, Raven Schlossberg, Think Again, Ana Wolovick, and Bari Ziperstein hail from New York, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and London.

“I’ve always been drawn to collage for the wide range of what can artists can convey using this medium, from surreal expressions, to the provocative and sexual, to the personal and political.” says Hart. “The art form has been used by some of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century such as Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauschenberg, Picasso and the Cubists, and Kurt Schwitters.” Hart was inspired by the inherent diversity of the technique and its continuing relevance among Contemporary artists. “The imagery represents all of what we see and know. The installation is a collage unto itself and will be elegant, thought provoking and vibrant.”
