RENO, NEVADA.-The Nevada Museum of Art presents Deborah Butterfield: Horses, on view through September 23, 2007. For over 20 years, Montana sculptor Deborah Butterfield has transformed scrap metal, discarded wood, and bronze into larger-than-life sculptures of the horse that are breathtakingly beautiful and captivating to encounter. Her remarkably prolonged and disciplined focus on the horse—a significant motif in Western art and culture—has sustained her throughout her artistic career. Deborah Butterfield: Horses offers a rare opportunity to view 14 of this internationally acclaimed artist’s graceful works in a single exhibition. Butterfield’s sculpture epitomizes her enduring commitment to exploring the poetic relationship between humans and the natural world.

Local presentation of Deborah Butterfield: Horses is sponsored by Gabelli Asset Management, the Stremmel Gallery and Janice Rude and David Spry. Promotional support provided by the Reno Rodeo Association.

The original version of this national traveling exhibition was organized by the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Montana. It was generously sponsored by The Meadowlark Fund; David Orser and Ossie Abrams; Dr. Don and Carol Roberts; Buchanan Capital LLC; Norma and Gary Buchanan; The Greg Kucera Gallery; The Zolla/ Lieberman Gallery, Inc.; Gallery Paule Anglim; L.A. Louver Gallery; Edward Thorp Gallery; and Robert and Jana Knight.

The NMA will present Deborah Butterfield: Horses as a part of the 12th annual Artown festival, July 1-31, 2007, with major funding provided by the City of Reno. The month-long arts festival features more than 350 events, produced by over 100 partnering organizations and individuals in more than 90 locations citywide.
