Dreaming Wide Awake, the Art of Omar Thompson

JACMEL, HAITI.- FOSAJ (Fondation Sant D'A Jakmel) presents Dreaming Wide Awake, the art of Omar Thompson, a photographic essay on the beauty of Jacmel. Omar Thompson, a professor of Art from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida is currently the Artist in Residence at the FOSAJ Art Gallery. Omar produces his spontaneous photos of Haitian life, living and community activity as he walks the streets and paths of Jacmel. His photographs vary in content and theme but are all rich in their compositional design and structure. The twenty selected photos from hundreds taken explore an inner beauty of simple subject matter, faces, places and the beauty that make Jacmel a pleasure to discover. Thompson applies mixed media materials and techniques to his photographs and creates his own non- traditional framing to accent the shot and give his work a sculptural presence. "I invite you to see Jacmel through my eyes and feel its silent beauty. Welcome and Enjoy!"
