Conference on Chinese Art at Oberlin |

OBERLIN, OH.- The Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College presents a conference on Chinese Art that accompanies the exhibition Expressions of the Literati in Suzhou currently on view in the Ripin Print Gallery through June 2, 2007. The conference will be held Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm in Classroom I, Allen Art Building, 87 North Main Street, Oberlin. A reception that follows will be held in the East Gallery of AMAM. The conference is also generously supported by the Department of Art’s Baldwin Lecture Fund and the Freeman Foundation Undergraduate Asian Studies Initiative.
Drawn from a private collection, Expressions of the Literati in Suzhou, features Suzhou artists of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), including works by the famed masters Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin, Qiu Ying, Lu Zhi, and Zhou Chen. This important exhibition includes a 1470 handscroll entitled Three vegetables and several of landscape scenes. The exhibition has been organized by Andrew Feng (OC ’07) with Dr. Chung-Lan Wang.
Speakers include Joseph Chang, Associate Curator of Chinese Art, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution; Ann De Coursey Clapp, Professor Emeritus of Asian Art, Wellesley College; and Chung-Lan Wang, Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow in Asian Art, Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College.
