NEW LONDON, CONN.- The Lyman Allyn Art Museum announces the opening of Howard McCalebb: The Golden Mean, on view from June 27 through October 6. The exhibition features a selection of sculptures, drawings, paintings, and collages by Norwich-based artist Howard McCalebb, highlighting the enduring influence of the Golden Ratio throughout his work.

Over the course of a prolific career spanning several decades, McCalebb has drawn inspiration from the myriad forms and patterns generated by the Golden Ratio, a mathematical proportion long associated with natural growth, harmony, and visual balance. For McCalebb, this universal structure, combined with a palette of near-primary colors, provides a framework that transcends cultural boundaries and serves as a foundation of his artistic practice.

McCalebb’s large-scale sculptures and other works have been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, including in Germany, Norway, Denmark, Bulgaria, China, and the United Arab Emirates. His work is represented in museum collections and private holdings around the world.

For the past several years, McCalebb has lived and worked in Norwich, Connecticut, where he operates Dada Post USA, a studio and gallery space. Prior to returning to the United States, he spent more than a decade in Berlin, Germany, where he founded and directed Dada Post, an artist residency and exhibition space (Kunstraum).

Originally from San Jose, California, McCalebb earned an MFA in Sculpture from Cornell University and a BA in sculpture from California State University at Hayward. Throughout his career, he has taught fine art at colleges and universities including San Jose State University, California; the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; the University of North Carolina, Greensboro; Rutgers University, Newark; Hunter College, New York; Cornell University; Graduate School of Pratt Institute; Parsons School of Design / The New School, and Amherst College.
