BERLIN, GERMANY.- The fifth international DESIGNMAI festival will take place from May 12 – 20, 2007 in Berlin. Following the major success of DESIGNMAI 2006, which saw 12,000 visitors to the central DESIGNCITY in the halls of the Gleisdreieck, this year visitors can again set their own personal design course through more than 100 projects in the creative metropolis that is Berlin. They will gain insights into the different fields of work of designers, including product and furniture design, communication and graphics, and the work of cultural institutions, universities, shops, agencies etc. This year, at DESIGNMAI 2007, we will again see DESIGNMAI YOUNGSTERS, a program which has found great success in recent years and which will display young and innovative design work by talented young people from all over the world. It will also include international exhibitions of design work from the Czech Republic, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Italy as well as an exhibition of product design from Berlin in the Haus am Waldsee.

Parallel to numerous events in the city, the heart of DESIGNMAI, the FORUM, is again presented as an individual event venue and information center at Spandauerstrasse 2, between Hackescher Markt and the Rotes Rathaus, 10178 Berlin – Mitte. Here, DESIGNMAI will host a number of events focussing on this year’s central theme, DIGITALABILITY, showing how, thanks to digital technology, not only production methods but also habits and product aesthetics change.

Furthermore, DESIGNMAI is organizing, together with Create Berlin and InPolis, the Business-to-business program, which was successfully launched in 2006. It is designed to strengthen, both in the short and long term, the marketing opportunities of the creative industries in Berlin and is supported by the Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Technologie und Frauen (Senate Department for Economics, Labor and Women’s Issues) and by Berlin Partner.

The DESIGNMAI 2007 program again offers an insight into the international trends and current themes in design and at the same time shows Berlin’s creative potential in the form of approx. 100 events including exhibitions, discussions, film showings, presentations, workshops etc.
