BRAUNSCHWEIG.- The Museum für Photographie Braunschweig closes its exhibition year with Water, a wide-ranging members’ exhibition that brings together photographic and film works by 52 artists from the museum association. On view from December 13, 2025, to January 25, 2026, the exhibition forms the museum’s final contribution to the Braunschweigische Landschaft’s thematic year dedicated to water.

Following an earlier exhibition that presented competition entries by four artists, Water expands the conversation by opening it up to the museum’s broader community. The result is a rich and varied exploration of a subject that is as visually compelling as it is socially urgent. The participating artists approach water from multiple angles—personal, environmental, poetic, and documentary—revealing how deeply it is woven into both everyday life and global concerns.

Water is presented not only as a vital natural resource but also as a powerful visual and symbolic presence. The exhibition moves fluidly from intimate details—dew drops, rain, and reflective puddles—to expansive views of lakes and seas. It also touches on humanity’s long relationship with water as a means of movement and exchange, evoked through images of boats, passenger ships, and container vessels crossing open waters.

Set against the backdrop of the climate crisis, the exhibition does not shy away from pressing issues. Environmental pollution, ecological responsibility, and water treatment emerge as recurring themes, underscoring how dependent natural systems and human societies are on this element. The works invite viewers to reflect on water’s fragility and on the shared responsibility to protect it.

With Water, the Museum für Photographie Braunschweig offers a thoughtful and visually engaging conclusion to its annual program—one that emphasizes both artistic diversity and the enduring importance of water in shaping life on Earth.
