BREGENZ.- What can an art institution still achieve today? Its task lies less in presenting art than in responding to current events: in opening up spaces where the world can be touched—as an experience. Kunsthaus Bregenz, with its iconic architecture, is particularly well suited to the task. With its austerity, its permeability, and its materiality, it is not merely a place of presentation, but a resonance body.

KOO JEONG A
January 31, 2026–May 25, 2026

Opening: Friday, January 30, 2026

KOO JEONG A focuses on incidental occurrences that emerge from patient observation. Invisible phenomena become tangible through sounds and smells–the invented and the found become closely interwoven in the process. KOO JEONG A’s work is characterized by an exceptionally quiet language and restrained gestures: a few precisely placed elements are enough to create an effect. Kunsthaus Bregenz offers an ideal setting for this. Its size and spaciousness allows the seemingly marginal to come into its own. Elegance, memory, and an almost spiritual atmosphere characterize both KOO JEONG A’s work and Peter Zumthor’s architecture.

KOO JEONG A (b. 1967, Seoul) lives and works “everywhere”.

Cyprien Gaillard
June 13, 2026–October 4, 2026

Opening: Friday, June 12, 2026

Cyprien Gaillard combines sculpture, architecture, video, photography, and sound art to create complex works. His themes revolve around youth culture, urban development, the perception of nature, and approaches to life in our time. He sees himself less as an author and more as an observer of existing structures.

For Kunsthaus Bregenz, Cyprien Gaillard is developing a new film production alongside sculptural interventions that are tailored to the building and its architecture.

Cyprien Gaillard (b. 1980, Paris) lives in Paris and Berlin.

KUB 2026.03
Torkwase Dyson
October 17, 2026–January 24, 2027

Opening: Friday, October 16, 2026

Torkwase Dyson describes herself as a painter, although her work goes far beyond classical painting. In large-scale sculptures, drawings, architectural installations, and performative works, she explores the connections between body, space, nature, and infrastructure.

For Kunsthaus Bregenz, Torkwase Dyson is planning a multipart project consisting of large-scale lightweight sculptures intended as “multiscale paintings,” along with a sound installation and immersive paintings. The works draw attention to historical and contemporary forms of exploitation, racism, and environmental destruction.

Torkwase Dyson (b. 1973, Chicago) lives and works in Beacon, New York.

Florentina Holzinger: Étude
August 2026, Seeanlagen Bregenz

A further highlight in 2026 is a new site-specific project by the Austrian performance artist Florentina Holzinger. Austria’s representative at the 2026 Venice Biennale is developing an Étude specifically for Kunsthaus Bregenz. We can reveal this much already: the lake will play an important role in the work.
