DALLAS, TX.- A magnificent watch that is considered a landmark in German watchmaking will make time to find a new owner when it crosses the block Nov. 20 in Heritages Watches & Fine Timepieces Signature® Auction.
The A. Lange & Söhne, Highly Important Platinum Tourbograph Pour le Mérite Limited Edition 36/51, Split-Second Chronograph Tourbillon With Power Reserve Indication, Ref. 702.025F, circa 2009 combines three of the most demanding complications: a one-minute tourbillon, power equalization with fusée-and-chain transmission, and split-seconds chronograph. Introduced in 2005, it was the first watch to integrate all three, showcasing Langes technical mastery.
At its core is the hand-finished calibre L903.0, composed of over 1,065 parts. The fusée-and-chain mechanism alone includes a 15 cm chain made of 600 components, weighing just 0.12 grams yet capable of lifting 2 kg-ensuring consistent torque and precision. Only 101 pieces were made. The one offered in this auction is one of just 51 made in platinum, and there are 50 in gold, with just 12 produced annually. Its rarity and engineering excellence make it one of the most coveted timepieces in haute horology.
This masterpiece is just one of the numerous highlights in what has the potential to be one of the most successful timepieces auctions Heritage has had.
This event is really one of the finest presentations of watchmaking masterpieces we have put together, says Jim Wolf, Heritages Director of Watches & Fine Timepieces. Its an auction with a really wide-ranging selection with something to offer for collectors at all levels. Call it Haute Horology an event that really shows off the art of precision watchmaking.
Also up for grabs is a stunning Romain Gauthier, Logical One, Superior Constant-Force Wristwatch, Ruby Link Chain And Fusee Mechanism, circa 2017 that features revolutionary manual wind movement, 37 jewels and 26 ruby jewels for the chain, 359 components and a 46-hour power reserve indicator on the back. It has a dark grey enamel dial, with white Arabic numerals and open diamond form hands.
One of the aesthetically treasures that is in play in the auction is Christophe Claret Piece Unique White Gold Flying Tourbillon Watch With Grand Feu Enameled Eagle Motif, circa 2019. It features an open inclined ring with white and black diamonds marking the hours, with blue lance hands, manual winding with tourbillon and an open semi-skeleton design, all housed in a 41 mm 18k white gold case.
Those who enjoy watches with an open design will be captivated by a Vacheron Constantin 89010/000P-9935 Traditionnelle Platinum 14-Day Tourbillon Wristwatch, Full Set. Introduced at SIHH 2014, it boasts the sophisticated tourbillon complication with the art of open work. The stunning double three-dimensional effect of the movement architecture is paired with four barrels stacked in pairs to produce a remarkable power reserve of 336 hours.
A Greubel Forsey, Fine and Important Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain, White Gold, No. 17 has a synthetic sapphire hour and minute marker ring, a black and white minute track, a power reserve indicator at 4 oclock and openwork hands with luminous triangular tips. Also included is a 24-second inclined tourbillon movement, with fixed transparent sapphire V-shaped bridge, a 72-hour power reserve and 268 components. From the same maker comes a Greubel Forsey Double Balancier à Différential Constant, Ultra-Fine White Gold Limited Edition Watch No. 16/33 that includes 285 components, two inclined balance wheels with intermediate constant spherical differential, four-minute constant force mechanism and a chronometric 72 hour power reserve, all housed in a 43 mm, 18k white gold case with a transparent back.
A Rolex, Ref. 116508 Green Dial 18k Gold John Mayer Cosmograph Daytona, Full Set, circa 2021 earns its moniker from the famous musician who has one in his collection. The green dial beautifully contrasts the gold luminous indexes and the subsidiary dials for the seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour registers with red and gold circular frames, all in a 40mm, polished and brushed 18k yellow gold case. According to an article in prestigeonline.com, Mayer revealed on Talking Watches three years after the launch of the 40mm watch that he owned the green dial Rolex Daytona and called it a sleeper hit. What resulted was a tremendous surge in demand and an incredible level of popularity for the green Daytona. This is how the watch got the nickname Rolex Daytona John Mayer.
