KINGSTON, NY.- 68 Prince Street Gallery is excited to announce its upcoming exhibition, A Break in the Clouds, featuring works by Donald Elder, Stuart Farmery, Murray Hochman, Joel Longenecker, Paul Marrocco and Stephen Niccolls. Opening August 30, 2025, this show pre- sents a distinctive exploration of landscape, texture and the fleeting beauty of the natural world.

Curated by Alan Goolman, A Break in the Clouds was born from a moment of inspiration—via a quote by Joel Longenecker that describe paintings as slabs of earth, cut out and tilted forward. This concept resonated deeply with Goolman, who envisioned Longenecker’s landscape paint- ings as horizontal, topographical scenes hung vertically.

The show’s thematic focus revolves around this idea of shifting perspectives, as well as the feel- ing of anticipation found in moments when the sky begins to clear. Two standout pieces, Hoch- man’s Stain Painting Blue and Longenecker’s As Crows Fly, invite the viewer to witness the skies opening, evoking a sense of impending clarity.

The exhibition is brought to life by a diverse group of artists. Donald Elder’s vibrant abstract landscape and Paul Marrocco’s dynamic, mark-filled terrains demand a sweeping aerial view, while Stephen Niccolls contributes textured compositions that ground the exhibition with a sense of color-rich stacked structure.

The sculptor in the show, Stuart Farmery, adds vital dimension, further expanding the conversa- tion about the relationship between space, form and perception.

Curator Alan Goolman reflects on the role of color and texture in the exhibition: “Color has al- ways guided my eye, but this show made me more aware of surface texture and structure and their power to suggest place. It reminds me of gazing from an airplane window, waiting for the clouds to part, and discovering the world’s color patterns below.”

A Break in the Clouds promises to be a thought-provoking experience, challenging the way we view the natural world and the landscapes we inhabit, both real and imagined.
