Connecting with Art to Honor Mother's Day

Motherhood has been presented in many art forms throughout the ages. Paintings, crafts, and portraits have been some of these mediums, each focusing on tenderness, maternal love, and the unbreakable bond. This inspires us to inculcate the spirit in every bold or subtle way, a custom Mother’s Day greeting card, a poem, a couplet, or any form of expression to present gratitude.

Top Artworks That Celebrate Mother’s Day

Mother and Child, Gustave Klimt

This is an alluring painting created by Gustave Klimt in 1905. Since 1912, it has been located at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, situated in Rome. This artwork is one of the three works created by Klimt that speak of the journey of a woman from her birth to death; childbirth being a part of it. It shows a woman lying with her child.

Virgin of the Rocks by Leonardo Da Vinci

Here, we are talking about a piece of art created by Leonardo Da Vinci from 1483-1486. He crafted another art piece called Madonna of the Rocks, which is known as the second version of the painting. Both the paintings are identical, yet have some notable differences. The Virgin of the Rocks portrays Madonna with Jesus as a child and John as an infant.

Kathe Kollowitz: Frau mit Totem Kind

An artwork crafted in 1903 shows a woman holding her lifeless child. The child features a calm, pale, and symmetrical presentation. However, the mother looks scratchy, dark, and expressionistic. The art presents her grief and an irony from Kollwitz’s life. The child was modeled by Kollowtiz's son, who later died in World War I.

La madre patria (Mother’s Country)

Here, we are talking about a sculpture created by Pedro Saroin. It perfectly presents the political and patriotic nature of motherhood. It shows a proud and forward-striding mother, followed by her child. Motherhood symbolizes fierceness, as she turns strongest with any thought of her children.

Doni Tondo: Michelangelo Buonarroti
Michelangelo Buonarroti created Doni Tondo (1506-1507). This artwork is said to be the only one completed by the Italian sculptor and artist without any assistance. The artwork has been inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s painting The Virgin & the Child with St. Anne. It is housed in Uffizi, Florence, Italy.

Evolution of Hand-Made Cards and the Notion of Presenting Them on Mother’s Day

Card-making is more than a craft. It has existed for ages with its history going back to ancient Chinese who exchanged good messages during the New Year. Egyptians also used Papyrus scrolls to present their greetings. Hand-made paper cards were initially brought into the exchange in the 15th century in Egypt. The centuries ahead, till now, have seen the transformation and upgradation of self-made cards to express happy moments.

The Notion of Presenting Self-Made Cards on Mother’s Day

Every year, the second Sunday of May is celebrated as Mother’s Day. Though the initiation earned recognition in 1914, there are traces of motherhood embraced even before that, during the Roman and Greek festivals. Similarly, in the 1600s, Mothering Sundays were celebrated, a Christian festival where individuals visited their mother church.

Mother’s Day is celebrated through different expressions of appreciation and love. Gifts, services, or acts of care, there are many ways of showering and appreciating mothers with love. Custom-made Mother’s Day greeting cards are one such way to present a unique yet personalized emotion for mothers.

Self-made cards express the thoughtfulness and efforts, interpreting the love for Mothers. These are cherished moments with a creative outlet that can serve as a medium for bonding.

Making the Custom Mother’s Day Greeting Cards Stand Out

The whole point of making a custom greeting card for Mother’s Day is to ensure she knows how unique and lovable she is. Some things to keep in mind are:

Understanding Her Temperament

It’s essential to understand what your mother may like. Does she prefer a touch of humor presented through the card or the artistic touch? The mom’s personality can play a role in making a greeting card that she will like.

Finalizing the Design

Whether you paint or write poems, your area of strength matters here. However, if you do not prefer any of these, you can always choose printable card options.

Writing the Message
A heartfelt message is the soul of the Mother’s Day card. You can write your message from the core of your heart. However, it’s all right to seek inspiration for these messages and suggestions.

Bringing Additions that Matter
A gift card to let her buy her lattes or a picture of the two of you, there are many of them to add to the card. You just need to remember that whatever you add goes a long way in reminiscing every bit of your love together.

Making Greeting Cards in the Most Modern Ways

The art of making greeting cards has come a long way. Planning to create a custom card no longer requires you to stick to the old methods of sheets and watercolors. Today, there are different ways to express gratitude and show greetings.

Printable Hybrid Cards
You can either draw or design your greeting card. Or, you can use a pre-designed and customized card.

Social Media Greeting Cards
Today, you can create animated greeting stories, video cards, and a custom Mother’s Day board on different social media platforms.

E-Cards
This is ideal for those who cannot present their card to their moms. E-cards or digital greeting cards can be created and shared easily online.

The real quest right now is understanding which format of greeting cards is ideal. If one wants to go paperless or cannot visit their mother, digital and quick cards fit right here. Similarly, self-made hybrid cards are ideal if you want to add creativity while using modern and innovative solutions. Regardless of the medium chosen, the expression of gratitude for mothers has existed for a while. However, its form of presentation can be upgraded with time.
