VENICE.- The Museo Fortuny in Venice is currently hosting Selva, an enchanting exhibition by renowned Parisian artist Eva Jospin. Curated by Chiara Squarcina and Pier Paolo Pancotto, in collaboration with Galleria Continua, the exhibition transforms the historic Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei into a dreamlike exploration of nature, art, and architecture. Known for her intricate sculptural works made from humble materials like cardboard, plant fibers, and metal, Jospin creates immersive landscapes that bridge the real and the fantastical.
Jospins work thrives in a liminal space between reality and imagination. Through her use of diverse media, she reimagines forests, geological formations, and architectural landscapes, evoking a magical, almost mysterious tone. The pieces on display at Museo Fortuny are site-specific, designed to engage in dialogue with the museums historic and cultural context. They also resonate with the legacy of Mariano Fortuny, whose rich artistic production is housed within the museum. This interaction reveals surprising aesthetic and conceptual affinities between Jospins creations and Fortunys works.
Born in Paris in 1975, Eva Jospin graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 2002 and has since achieved international acclaim. Her sculptures and installations have been exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, and the Hayward Gallery in London. Her monumental works include Panorama, a stunning installation in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, and Cénotaphe, a meditative piece at the Abbaye de Montmajour. Jospins collaborations extend beyond art spaces, having created elaborate embroidered panels for Diors haute couture collections and immersive décors for their runway shows.
At Museo Fortuny, Jospin continues her tradition of blending craftsmanship with imagination. The exhibitions title, Selva (meaning "forest" in Italian), reflects her deep connection to nature, a recurring theme in her work. Her sculpturescrafted from everyday materialstransform spaces both intellectually and physically, encouraging visitors to reflect on themes of creativity, perception, and ecological awareness.
Eva Jospins art has found a permanent presence in several international landmarks, including Folie at the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, La Traversée in Paris, and Le Passage in Nantes. In Milan, her Microclima, an installation conceived as a winter garden, graces the Max Mara flagship store in Piazza del Liberty. Beyond her permanent works, Jospin has been celebrated in contemporary art fairs worldwide, where her innovative style continues to captivate audiences.
The Selva exhibition at Museo Fortuny is a must-see, offering a magical journey through Jospins intricate, nature-inspired world. Visitors are invited to explore her imaginative landscapes, where the boundaries between art and environment blur, and new perspectives emerge.
