EAST LANSING, MI.- Kresge Art Museum kicks off a year of exhibitions and programming around the theme of work which runs through Sunday, November 5. Tools in Motion is the first in a series of 2006-2007 season exhibitions which focus on the theme of work and workers. Selected from the collection of hardware-industry pioneer John Hechinger, this is an exhibit of over 50 contemporary works that represent or incorporate everyday tools and hardware, making the ordinary extraordinary. Included are sculptures, paintings, and works on paper by well-recognized artists such as Arman, Jim Dine, Claes Oldenburg, and Jacob Lawrence. Circulated by International Arts and Artists.
Public programs for Tools in Motion include a gallery walk on Monday, October 2 (12:10 p.m.), and a Creative Kids at Kresge childrens activity on Saturday, October 28 (1-3:00 p.m.), as well as showings of several related films. On Friday, October 6 (7:00 p.m.), the MSU Main Library will be hosting Salt of the Earth (1954, directed by Herbert Biberman), with an introduction by Lisa Fine, Professor of History. On Thursday, November 2 (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday, November 5 (2:00 p.m.), Kresge Art Centers Room, KAM will show the film The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter, an informative and entertaining award-winning documentary about the American home front during the second World War.
