SAN ANTONIO, TX.- Artpace San Antonio announced Regine Basha as the Guest Curator for the Fall 2025 International Artist-in-Residence program. Known for her innovative curatorial work and commitment to supporting artistic exploration, Basha will make her selection of three resident artists—one international, one national, and one Texas-based—who will begin their residency in Fall 2025.

As Guest Curator, Basha will travel to San Antonio in December 2024 to conduct studio visits with Texas artists and identify her Texas-based artist selection. During her time in San Antonio, Basha will also present a Curator Talk at Artpace, offering insights into her career, curatorial approach, and early vision for the Fall 2025 residency. The talk, scheduled for December 12, 2024, from 6-8 PM, is free and open to the public.

Regine Basha, born into an Iraqi-Jewish family, has spent significant portions of her career in Montreal, Los Angeles, and New York, where she was Director of Residencies at Pioneer Works, Brooklyn. From 2002 to 2008, she lived in Austin, Texas, where she co-founded Testsite and Fluent-Collaborative in 2003 with Laurence Miller.

During her time in Texas, she also held the role of Adjunct Curator at Arthouse, now The Contemporary Austin. Basha’s notable exhibitions in Texas include Daniel Bozhkov: Cantata for 12 Choirs and Several Salamanders; The Gospel of Lead: Jeremy Blake; Steve Roden + Stephen Vitiello at Lora Reynolds Gallery; Basim Magdy at Austin's Okay Mountain; Julieta Aranda – You Gad No 9th of May! at Sala Diaz; Nina Katchadourian at Testsite; The Rules of Basketball Works by Paul Pfeiffer at the Blanton Museum UT Austin; Seedlings at Dallas Contemporary; and The Marfa Sessions at Ballroom Marfa and most recently Voice of Coral with Miguel Sbastida at Galveston Art Residency. Her full curatorial history can be accessed at bashaprojects.com

Basha has often worked in collaboratives with projects concerning borders, displacement, and issues in public space, such as with Insite 97 Tijuana/San Diego, The Brewster Project, NY; Without You I'm Nothing, Platform Istanbul; When You Cut Into The Present The Future Leaks Out, Old Bronx Courthouse and Dar Al Suhl with Michael Rakowitz as well as her online story-telling archive Tuning Baghdad.

Reflecting on her upcoming role with Artpace, Basha stated, “There is no doubt that artist residencies provide much-needed time and support for artists to deepen their practice and restore their focus. Artpace understood this need early on and led the way as a prime example of how to do it right. I hope it never changes! Thank you for giving me the honor to be involved with the 2025 cohort."
