As the automotive market continues to grow, there is a rising demand for
B-segment SUVs. Perodua, recognizing this trend, is set to introduce a new model, the Perodua Nexis (D66B), into the competitive SUV market.
The Perodua Nexis is a B-segment SUV built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, which is known for its high modularity and flexibility. This platform has been successfully implemented in other Perodua models like the
Perodua Ativa and Perodua Alza, ensuring quality and performance while also enhancing manufacturing efficiency.
According to current information, the Perodua Nexis is expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, which is capable of delivering up to 106 PS and a peak torque of 138 Nm. This engine is paired with a D-CVT transmission, designed to provide smooth power delivery and optimize fuel economy—key features for consumers looking for an efficient B-segment SUV.
Additionally, there are rumors about a hybrid version of the Perodua Nexis, which would combine a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor, generating a combined output of up to 171 PS. This hybrid option could attract customers who are interested in a more environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient SUV.
Positioned slightly above the Perodua Ativa, the Perodua Nexis is expected to play a significant role in Perodua's B-segment SUV lineup. With an estimated starting price of RM73,000, the Nexis is competitively priced, especially compared to the Proton X50, which starts at RM 86,300. This competitive pricing could make the Nexis a strong contender in the market.
For reference, the Perodua Ativa is priced between RM 62,500 and RM 73,400, while the top variant of the Perodua Alza costs RM 75,500. As the launch of the Nexis approaches, there is speculation on whether it could be the first Perodua vehicle assembled in Malaysia to exceed RM 80,000.
With its competitive pricing, advanced platform and potential hybrid option, the Perodua Nexis is poised to challenge the
Proton X50 in the growing B-segment SUV market. Consumers eagerly await its official release to see if it truly stands up to the competition.
