Gerhard Mantz, Die Fremdenfuehrerin, 2006.
|
BERLIN, GERMANY.- Digital Art Museum Berlin will present Gerhard Mantz - Forms of Unconsciousness (Computer-generated Images and Animations), on view 8th September 2006 7th November 2006. Over the last decades Gerhard Mantz has evolved from being a sculptor to becoming one orf the most wellknown artist in Germany, working with the computer, creating virtual landscapes and animations. The next exhibition "Forms of Unconsciousness" at [DAM] Berlin shows a selection of new works.
The absence of conciousness as one of the last mysteries of life refers to his dualistic approach in creating his art. Again he is confronting us with seemingly harmless landscapes, but fully artificial. He is not even trying to be naturalistic, his idea is to capture the concept of a specific landscape, beyond our awareness. Gerhard Mantz develops a contemporary language for a romantic view on our times, rephrasing the questions of the 19th century on the search for a harmonic entireness. At the same time he familiarizes us with the idea of a virtual world, parallel to the existig one.
