HONG KONG.- Sotheby's will move to its new Maison on 27 July, offering a portal to a world of boundless inspiration and discovery. Showcasing hundreds of objects across art and luxury available for the public to view and purchase seven days a week in its 24,000 square-foot space, Sotheby’s invites newcomers and seasoned connoisseurs at Landmark Chater – in the heart of Hong Kong’s Central district – to a journey through 80 million years of history, across more than 20 categories, spanning all continents and artistic endeavours.

Sotheby’s two-storey Maison presents a groundbreaking dual concept: the ground floor houses a dramatic state-of- the-art space designed for immersive experiences and moments of contemplation, where museum-grade exhibitions and performances will be staged, alongside Sotheby’s signature auction exhibitions spread throughout the year. The first floor features a uniquely curated retail experience exploring an array of cross-category art, luxury and collectibles spanning 80 million years of history and offered for instant purchase at prices ranging from HK$5,000 to HK$50 million.

On the ground floor, a series of debut exhibitions will run through this summer. Sotheby’s is honoured to present Bodhi: Masterpieces of Monumental Buddhist Art, an exhibition of monumental Buddhist sculpture tracing the development of Buddhist art. The captivating narrative continues with ICE: Two Masterworks on Loan from the Long Museum, that transcends time and geography. Gerhard Richter’s Eisberg, the ultimate example of the artist’s painterly re-examination of the landscape genre for the photographic age; and an exceptionally rare Ru ware brushwasher made circa 1100 in China, the beauty of its ice-like crackle having been praised by emperors and scholars for nearly a millennium.

Sotheby's Invitation to Another World

In celebration of the launch of Sotheby’s new spaces in Hong Kong, Paris, and New York, a short film voiced by actor Charles Dance OBE will pay cinematic tribute to the power of creativity; transporting the audience to Another World With its accessible, immersive exhibitions and acclaimed cultural programming, Sotheby’s is proud to share the unique stories of visionaries and remarkable objects with the public every single day.

Nicolas Chow, Chairman of Sotheby’s Asia comments: “Another World embodies the philosophy of our Maison in Central, a place where visitors will be able to enjoy both unique museum experiences as well as an extraordinary retail journey across art and luxury spanning millions of years to the present day, from all cultures and civilisations, 365 days a year.”

With a commitment to redefine the luxury art experience for both the general public and connoisseurs, Sotheby’s aims to establish this new epicentre of culture by proposing a unique curation of artworks from various eras, themes and regions, at all price points, thus engaging a wide audience. Nicolas Chow adds: “Our new Maison promises to be a destination where history is told and made – a place where the most remarkable tales come to life.”
