Three New Exhibits at the Bass Museum of Art

MIAMI.- The Bass Museum of Art presents three new exhibits. The first, Tapestries: The Great Twentieth Century Modernists Picasso, Matisse, Calder and Others This unique exhibition explores the interplay between artists and weavers, and the inspiration shared among the modern masters that offers valuable insight into the tradition of tapestry and its significant impact on 20th century modernism. Works include the vibrant and joyful colors of Calder, Arp, bold figural architectonics of Léger and Le Corbusier, cutouts of Matisse, and cubism of Picasso. Woven works by Kandinsky, Vasarely, Braque, and Chagall, add diversity to this exhibition which will delight and inspire visitors.

From Canvas to Textiles: Mira Lehr for Odegard is a selection of Mira Lehr’s compositions are reinterpreted by Stephanie Odegard through hand-knotted wool and silk textiles that feature Japanese motifs, geometric forms and a tropical palette. These refined works of art carry on the long tradition of weaving while maintaining a distinctive cultural heritage. The series of textiles is a result of the collaboration of two visionary women who strive to create harmonious environments through simple elements drawn from nature. Works on canvas by Mira Lehr will also be shown.

The third exhibit is Made in Miami: Hereve Di Rossa´s Around the World/12th Stage. While Hervé di Rosa's association with Figuration libre is well-known in France, the Bass Museum of Art will mount the first American museum exhibition of this renowned French artist. Made in Miami: Hervé di Rosa's Around the World/12th Stage will highlight a recent body of work that explores Miami's visual and popular culture as part of this artist's international odyssey. In this series of paintings, drawings and sculptures Di Rosa explores a reductive approach emphasizing the color and light of the Miami landscape.
