Vintage Rolex Daytona from original family leads Heritage's Watches & Fine Timepieces auction beyond $2.5 million

DALLAS, TX.- More than two dozen bids poured in for a Rolex, Rare 14k Yellow Gold Cosmograph, Ref. 6265 “Sigma Dial” Circa 1978, Associated Gold Bracelet, With Box, Original 14k U.S.A. Band(For Repair) and Stamped Warranty that eventually sold for $143,750, leading Heritage’s Watches & Fine Timepieces Signature® Auction to $2,571,945 June 3.

“This is a remarkable timepiece that has remained in good hands throughout its existence,” says Jim Wolf, Director of Watches & Fine Timepieces at Heritage Auctions. “It was sold more than 40 years ago, and has remained in the original owner’s family ever since.”

A Patek Philippe, Fine Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, Ref. 3970ER-012 Circa 2000 Full Set sold for $90,625 to lead more than 20 watches by the last family-owned Genevan watch manufacturer. It features an opaline dial, with faceted baton hour markers and Feuille hands, all housed in a 36mm 18k rose gold case.

Another Patek Philippe highlight was a Superb Ref. 5960P, Brand New Single Sealed, Circa 2014 Full Set that climbed to $55,000. Presented as brand new and including all of its original accessories, it boasts a silver dial with triple aperture to show the day, date and month, with applied hour indices and luminous hands, in a 40mm platinum case.

A Longines, Very Rare and Fine Stainless Steel Ref. 5699 “Doppia Lancetta” Circa 1940s With Extract more than doubled its high pre-auction estimate when it closed at $78,125. It features a silver dial with a blue central “snail scale” track, an outer open “Mileage” track, dual sunken sub-registers for subsidiary seconds, elapsed chronograph hours, luminous Arabic hour indices and blued luminous hands, all encased in a 39.5mm stainless steel case.

Seventy-nine Rolexes found new homes in the auction, including a Rolex, Ref. 6265 Stainless Steel Oyster Cosmograph “Big Red Floating Daytona” Wristwatch, Circa 1975 that sold for $52,500. This magnificent watch was consigned to Heritage Auctions by the original owner nearly 50 years after it was purchased.

A Rare Stainless Steel Submariner, Ref. 16610 “Panama Canal” No. 4/75 Circa 1999, From the Original Owner, which was among a group of four beautiful watches celebrating the return of the Panama Canal from the United States to Panama, sold for $50,000. Another prize from the group, a rare 18k Yellow Gold Yacht-Master II, Ref. 116688 Made to Commemorate Centennial Anniversary of the Panama Canal, One of 30 Made Circa 2014, ended at $37,500.

• A Fine 18k Everose Daytona Ref. 116505 Circa 2019 Full Set: $42,500

• An 18k Yellow Gold Day-Date “40” Ref. 228348RBR Circa 2013: $41,250

• An As-New 18k Rose Gold Sky-Dweller Circa 2019 Full Set: $41,250

Other top lots in the auction included, but were not limited to:

• An A. Lange & Sohne, Platinum Grand Lange 1 Ref. 115.025 Circa 2008 Box and Papers: $41,250

• A Vacheron Constantin, Fine Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, Patrimony Traditionelle Ref. 47292/000R-9392: $40,000

• An Omega, 18k yellow Gold Speedmaster “Apollo XI” Circa 1969, Serial no. 75: $40,000
