NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announced, Two American Collections: The Estates of Adolphus and Emily Andrews, San Francisco, and Donald Bruce Wilson, Memphis, a single, online sale comprising more than 200 lots of 18th- and 19th-century European decorative arts from two distinguished American collections. Ranging from the elegant to the whimsical, and descending from royal, noble, and notable collections, the objects in this sale evoke the high style of earlier eras and the exquisite taste of remarkable American collectors. Known as Dolph and Emmy to their friends, Adolphus Andrews Jr. and his wife of 69 years, Emily Taylor Andrews, presided over San Francisco society from a Pacific Heights townhouse filled with fine furniture and objects. Dr. Bruce Wilson was a distinguished heart surgeon and consummate collector, who fell in love with 18th-century France.

Highlights of the Andrews collection include: a rare pair of marquetry table screens made for Joachim Murat, King of Naples that later belonged to the famed tastemaker Carlos de Beistegui (estimate: $50,000-100,000); a pair of striking neo-classical late Louis XV console tables formerly in the Anna Thomson Dodge collection in her Grosse Pointe residence (estimate: $100,000-200,000); a Louis XVI white-painted Niche A Chien (estimate: $8,000-12,000); and a charming collection of gold boxes including a Louis XV four-color gold box bearing the mark of Mathieu Coiny (estimate: $8,000-12,000). Highlights of the Wilson collection include: a superb Regence régulateur by André-Charles Boulle (estimate: $150,000-200,000); a Louis XIV Savonnerie carpet (estimate: $30,000-50,000); and a sumptuous selection of Sèvres porcelain including various examples from royal collections such as a plate from the 'Service De La Reine' commissioned by Marie Antoinette (estimate: $10,000-15,000), and other magnificent examples of Sèvres, such as a large ormolu-mounted powdered lavender and gold-ground vase, circa 1805-1806 made for the Duke of Hamilton (estimate $80,000-120,000). Sculpture, Old Master paintings and Chinese works of art can be found throughout the auction as well.
