Dracula Has Risen From the Grave (1968), a classic Hammer British Quad film poster, measuring 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm), starring the master of them all, Christopher Lee. Another design by Tom Chantrell, and an estimate of £80-120.



WOKING.- Spiders, vampires, zombies, werewolves and evil spirits abound among the classic designs of Ewbank’s Vintage Posters auction on May 24. Led by the magnificently retro kitsch Tarantula, here is a fine selection.

Tarantula

Tarantula (1955), US One sheet. Rolled, with heavy linen backing, the 42 x 28½ inch (107 x 72cm) poster, has an estimate of £400-600.

Fiends

The Flesh and the Fiends (1959), linen backed, 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster. The film starred Peter Cushing. Estimate £100-200.

Prowlers

The Prowlers, a 1981 slasher movie that starred the later great Farley Granger, who also co-starred in Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train. One of a collection of vintage posters offered together as a single lot with an estimate of £100-200.

Twins

Peter Cushing and Dennis Price co-starred in Twins of Evil (1971), a Hammer Horror cult classic for which this 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster was designed. The estimate is £120-160.

Hills

The Hills Have Eyes (1977), one of the best known horror films of the 1970s and directed by Wes Craven. This 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster features artwork by the unrivalled Tom Chantrell. The estimate is £80-120.

Beast

A double bill of horror: Blood on Satan’s Claw / The Beast in the Cellar. Both from 1971 and starring the likes of Patrick Wymark, Beryl Reid and Flora Robson. This 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad is guided at £100-120.

House

The House That Dripped Blood. Another garish design from 1971, this 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster promoted another starring role for Peter Cushing. The estimate is £80-120.

Whipcord

House of Whipcord (1974) – a 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster with an estimate of £80-120.

Dracula

Dracula Has Risen From the Grave (1968), a classic Hammer British Quad film poster, measuring 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm), starring the master of them all, Christopher Lee. Another design by Tom Chantrell, and an estimate of £80-120.

Zombies

Zombies Dawn of the Dead (1978), a 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster, guided at £60-100.

Werewolf

Shadow of the Werewolf (AKA The Werewolf Versus The Vampire Woman) / Tombs of the Blind Dead (1971 / 1972), a 30 x 40 inch (76 x 102cm) British Quad film poster estimated at £80-100.

Ghost

The Headless Ghost (1959), a 28 x 22 inch (71 x 56cm) US half sheet, estimated at £60-80.
