Hermès Metallic Kelly glitters in Heritage's Spring Luxury Accessories Auction
Hermès Limited Edition 25cm Metallic Gold Chevre Leather Sellier Kelly Bag with Gold Hardware.

DALLAS, TX.- On May 2, Heritage Auctions presents the gold standard of Luxury Accessories sales with its Spring Signature® event, an auction teeming with scarce and one-of-a-kind finds.

Fittingly, one of the auction's standouts is the rare and coveted Hermès Limited Edition 25cm Metallic Gold Chevre Leather Sellier Kelly. Along with its Metallic Silver and Bronze counterparts, the bag was produced in extremely limited quantities to coincide with the 2004 Athens Olympics. Highly valued for its exclusive metallic finish and iconic design, the stunning accessory is sought after among collectors and fashion connoisseurs alike.

"This bag boasts a higher resale value than its traditional leather counterparts due to its unique finish, limited availability and its status as a collector's item," says Diane D'Amato, Heritage Auctions' Director of Luxury Accessories, Private Sales & The Boutique. "We expect this gold-tinted treasure to be extremely popular with bidders, who literally will be going for the gold!"

Another Hermès masterwork on offer is the 30cm Matte White Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Birkin. Regarded as one of the most special and sought-after bags in the world, the Himalaya is made from the scarcest material on Earth – the hide of the Niloticus crocodile, whose natural olive brown skin is painstakingly bleached and hand-dyed to create a magnificent palette of smoky gray tones that fade into a luminescent white. The unique ombre effect mimics the snow-capped Himalayas for which the bag is named.

Collectors looking for a one-of-a-kind bag surely will be wowed by the Hermès 35cm Étoupe Clemence Leather Birkin hand-painted by the renowned American urban artist RETNA, whose work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and featured in ad campaigns for iconic brands such as Nike, Louis Vuitton and VistaJet. Completed in 2020, the unique piece of wearable art features the instantly recognizable bold, graphic and geometric script for which RETNA is known. Inspired by street art, hip-hop, mysticism, Native American symbology and a variety of world religions, RETNA's work bridges the gap between traditional graffiti and fine art, and this showstopping bag is no exception.Throughout the auction, handbags of various shapes, sizes and hues abound, ranging from micro-mini Chanel bags to big, beautiful Hermès Birkins. Highlights include spring fashion must-haves such as the Hermès 5P Bubblegum Pink Ostrich Kelly Danse Bag and the Hermès 28cm Fuchsia Ostrich Retourne Kelly. Then there are the rich jewel tones of the Hermès 35cm Mykonos Matte Alligator Birkin, dyed the color of the Aegean Sea, and the luxurious vintage Hermès 40cm Violet Doblis Suede Verso Birkin. Doblis suede, especially in Violet, is difficult to find in the Birkin, making this bag exceedingly uncommon.

For something timeless and classic, there's the Hermès 35cm Special Order Horseshoe Black & Rose Tyrien Togo Leather Birkin, which offers the perfect color combination for every season, and the highly collectible Hermès 15cm vintage Black Varanus Salvator Lizard Micro Kelly. The latter was produced only in small batches throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Hermès no longer produces the Kelly in this size, and the bag rarely comes to auction.

The spring auction also features a single-owner collection of Judith Leiber evening bags. All of the bags in the collection are vintage, and, like all Judith Leiber crystal minaudieres, the process used to make them is part of what makes them so special. It takes 20 artisans to craft each piece from start to finish, and the crystals are all set one by one. Standouts include a Full Bead White & Multicolor Crystal Butterfly minaudiere complete with mini tassel comb and mirror, a Gold & Multicolor Crystal Floral minaudiere, a Full Bead Black & White Crystal Egg minaudiere and a Silver Crystal Buddha minaudiere. The May 2 auction also marks the beginning of Heritage's new online session. As usual, the online session will immediately follow the live auction, but starting this May, the online session will be an even greater extension of the live auction, offering bidders a more diverse selection. The second session will feature Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton bags, jewelry and home accessories with opening bids of $5,000 and lower.
