DALLAS, TX.- The Dallas Art Fair marked its 16th edition with significant sales and robust attendance, concluding Sunday, April 7. The fair welcomed 91 international exhibitors to Fashion Industry Gallery (f.i.g.) and attracted collectors, curators, and artists from around the world to the Dallas Arts District.

Citing remarkable sales, Kelly Cornell, Director of the Dallas Art Fair, said, “Our 16th edition affirms Dallas’s reputation as an exciting hub for art commerce, cultural dialogue, and spirited festivities. What's particularly gratifying is the diverse range of sales we've witnessed across various price points, demonstrating the fair's appeal to a wide audience.” Of the prominent placements within significant collections and institutions, including three Dallas Museum of Art acquisitions through the Dallas Art Fair Foundation’s program, she noted, “The fair facilitates strong connections between exceptional institutions and some of the most vibrant players in the art market. I’m thrilled that this trust between exhibitors, collectors, and curators at our fair impacts the larger art landscape in lasting ways.”

The fair continued its public art program with Within This Deep Breath, an outdoor installation of medium- and large-scale sculptures curated by Sara Hignite, presented in the park surrounding f.i.g. Works by Michelle Segre, Karla Garcia, Alexa Horochowski, Sherry Owens, and Sarah Rodriguez addressed connections to and ruptures with the natural world, and created a dynamic entry to the fair.

Highlights of the week included several public discussions at Nasher Sculpture Center: artist talks between Guadalajara-based artist Gabriel Rico and the Nasher’s Chief Curator Jed Morse; New York based painter Karen Gunderson and Amon Carter Museum Assistant Curator Maggie Adler; as well as a conversation on representation between collector Komal Shah and Dallas Museum of Art Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck. The Joule hosted the sold-out Eyeboretum, a family-friendly garden party spanning ten days, presented by Headington Companies.

DALLAS MUSEUM OF ART ACQUISITIONS

Three artworks from the fair were added to the Dallas Museum of Art’s (DMA) permanent collection. The acquisitions were funded by the eighth Dallas Art Fair Foundation Acquisition Program, an annual gift from the Dallas Art Fair Foundation that places works from the fair into the DMA’s collection and strengthens connections among the participating international galleries, the museum, and the Dallas Art Fair. Since 2016, the initiative has funded $875,000 for the DMA’s permanent collection to date.

The chosen, large-scale artworks were by Ailbhe Ní Bhriain (Kerlin Gallery), JooYoung Choi (Inman Gallery), and Thania Petersen (Nicodim Gallery).
