For the oil painting Dive 2023 Tansey says it was inspired by mid-century advertisements between 1938 and 1950. Simple shapes and graphic illustrations were used to promote a new modern way of living.
Known today for his oil paintings, Tansey will show selected works for this solo exhibition in Hudson. These include abstract, uniquely textured still lifes, flowers, landscapes, and figures. He draws inspiration from the impasto canvas paintings of Nicolas de Staël, expressionistic paintings of Joan Mitchell, and the figurative paintings of Alex Katz. His own technique involves broad brush and palette knife with a sophisticated sense of color.
Tansey has studied at the International Center of Photography, The School of Visual Arts, The Arts Students League of New York, The New York Film Academy and the Provincetown Art Association.
This is his second solo show at the Robin Rice Gallery, now in her new location at 234 Warren street in Hudson, NY.
