BELLEVUE, WA.- Bellevue Arts Museum’s Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Kate Casprowiak Scher as Executive Director of Bellevue Arts Museum.

With a background in art history, Kate has held various academic positions, including faculty roles at Portland State University, Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, and Bellevue College, where she earned tenure and served for 11 years. Kate also chaired the Art Department at Bellevue College for two years. In addition to her academic career, Kate has curated several exhibitions, managed a private art collection and founded an art appraisal business. Art historical research has always been a passion, but the opportunity to work with artists, the art institution and the cultural vision of Bellevue is one she could not pass up. Kate is known for her advocacy of diversity and inclusion in the arts and actively promotes these values.

For the four months, Kate has been serving as the Interim Executive Director at BAM and has now received an offer from the board to take on the role permanently. "I am honored to accept the invitation to guide Bellevue Arts Museum during these challenging times. It is a privilege to contribute to an institution that stands as a cultural cornerstone in downtown Bellevue," says Kate. “Like many arts and culture organizations, BAM has faced significant challenges in the past few years, seeing significant reduction in vital earned revenue streams. Despite these challenges, the BAM fam works tirelessly to ensure the Museum produces and will continue producing exhibitions and events that foster community on the Eastside. I am eager to develop new partnerships as well as honor those who have supported this organization for decades. I believe Bellevue Arts Museum has a critical role in shaping our community in the years to come and I am so very excited to be a part of that.”

“In just a few months Kate has been here, she has made significant strides in strengthening BAM's ties with the community. Her proactive efforts to cultivate meaningful connections have contributed extensive support from community and stakeholders. Through collaborative initiatives and outreach efforts, she has successfully positioned BAM as an inclusive and accessible cultural hub for all,” says President of the Board of Trustees, Jay Pathy. “We are excited by the progress she is making and eagerly anticipate the positive impact her continued efforts will bring to our museum. Her deep understanding of museum’s mission and her strong leadership skills make her an ideal choice to guide BAM for years to come.”

Kate’s appointment comes as the Museum looks forward to presenting an exciting slate of 2024 exhibitions and celebrating the 78th anniversary of its Arts Fair legacy. Kate Casprowiak Scher will assume the role of Executive Director on Feb 12, 2024.
