SALEM, MA.- The Peabody Essex Museum recently announced the appointment of Gevelyn McCaskill as the museum’s next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). McCaskill, who currently serves as PEM’s Director of Financial Planning and Business Intelligence, has held key leadership roles in the museum’s Finance department since 2016 and has more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit finance sector. McCaskill assumes her new role concurrent with the retirement of PEM’s current CFO, Nathalie Apchin, on March 31, 2024.

McCaskill is skilled in strategic financial planning and analysis and adept at optimizing resources, improving processes and incorporating business intelligence solutions that inform PEM’s financial decisions. As an effective team leader, she has fostered strong working relationships with individuals across the organization and worked closely in concert with Apchin, both at PEM and as colleagues at their previous employer, Harvard Medical School.

“We are thrilled to have Gevelyn advance into this new role and join PEM’s Executive Team. In addition to a wealth of experience and a collaborative mindset, she brings an in-depth understanding of the museum’s financial operations,” said Lynda Roscoe Hartigan, PEM’s Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Executive Director and CEO. “We remain deeply grateful to outgoing CFO Nathalie Apchin for her tireless work over the past eight years to modernize and streamline the operations of PEM’s Finance, IT and Revenue teams. She leaves the department in a position of great strength, with strategic plan financial projections mapped for the next five years and a team of highly competent staff in place, as well as a well-prepared successor.”

Prior to joining PEM, McCaskill served as Harvard Medical School’s Senior Financial Analyst, Brandeis University’s Associate Director of Finance and Administration and Harvard University’s Manager of Finance. McCaskill earned her MBA from the University of Florida and her BA in History from Duke University. She is a former enrolled agent of the U.S. Treasury Department and a current member of the National Black MBA Association and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
