TACOMA, WA.- The Tacoma Art Museum presents Between Clouds of Memory: The Ceramic Art of Akio Takamori, on view through October 8, 2006. This exhibition presents a twenty-five-year mid-career survey exhibition of one of the country's leading ceramic artists. Born in Japan, Takamori incorporates his heritage in the style and content of his large-scale figurative ceramic sculpture. A marriage of Western and Asian influences, he uses black-line drawing reminiscent of Japanese woodblock prints and calligraphy coupled with an intense interest in the human form. The artist currently heads the ceramic program at University of Washington in Seattle. This exhibition compliments the series at the Henry Art Gallery, Akio Takamori: The Laughing Monks, on view July 8 through October 29, 2006.
