La Belle Epoque Auction House announces "The Sizzling Summer" sale

NEW YORK, NY.- La Belle Epoque Auction House, is presenting “The Sizzling Summer” August 19th live auction at their stunning 7,000 square-foot space at 71 8th Avenue on the border of the Meatpacking District and the West Village in New York City. The auction, being held live in-person, begins on August 19th at 11am and will also be online through LaBelleEpoque.com, LiveAuctioneers and Bidsquare. Online previews and early bidding begins on August 7th, with in-person previews August 17th and 18th from 11am-5pm.

Leading the way at the August 19th auction will be an eclectic selection of Contemporary and Modern Art of all kinds, while also offering an impressive collection of antiques, silver, mid-century modern furniture, jewelry, fashion, lighting, memorabilia, collectibles, decorative items and more.

Much anticipated highlights in the art arena will include a rare complete Norman Rockwell 'Tom Sawyer' Portfolio Suite Presented in the original Portfolio, Norman Rockwell's 'Tom Sawyer' Portfolio includes: 1 Lithograph (made with 12 plates) printed at Atelier Mourlot in Paris, France and 7 Collotypes printed by Arthur Jaffe Heliochrome Co., Vienna, Austria. Numbered 30/200 bottom right of each sheet. Hand signed bottom right of each sheet by the artist in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Printed in 1973, released March 20th 1977. Approximate size: Lithograph: 17" H x 12.5" W, Collotypes: 20" H x 20" W, Approximate sheet size: Lithograph: 25.5" H x 19.5" W, Collotypes: 26" H x 19.5" W, Approximate portfolio size - 26.25" H x 21.25" W. Estimate: $4000-$6000.

Other notable art is a Still Life by Tom Wesselmann. This 1988 canvas depicts a bowl of fruit surrounded by flowers and a tea kettle. The brilliant colors of this Wesselmann exhibit sharp contrasts with the stark white background. Hand signed by Tom Wesselmann (Cincinnatti, 1931 - New York City, 2004) in pencil and numbered 80/100. Framed as is. Approximate site size - 56.5" H x 70.5" W, Approximate size including frame - 58" H x 72" W. Estimate: $8,000-$12,000, a Reclining Figure/Indian Blanket by Alex Katz, c.1987, Color aquatint on Somerset Satin Paper, Published and printed by Crown Point Press, San Francisco. Signed in graphite with edition lower center sheet, edition noted 53/60. Frame (as is) condition commensurate with age. Approximate site size - 41.5" H x 35.5" W. Approximate size including frame - 47" H x 41" W. Estimate: $6000-$8000, a rare Moulin Rouge Maquette by Bussy, Vintage Poster Maquette depicting Moulin Rouge including but not exclusive to Maurice Chevalier, Edith Piaf, Suzy Prim, Mistinguette Dated approximately mid 1920's to early 1930's Approximate Site Size: 18.5" H x 24.25" W. Approximate size including frame: 20.75" H x 26.75" W. Estimate $3000-$5000.

Also in the spotlight is a Framed Miro 'Galerie Matarasso' Lithograph c.1957. Joan Miro (1893-1983 Spanish) ''Exposition a la Galerie Matarasso'' 1957 Polychromed Lithograph. Hand signed bottom right, numbered bottom left 37/200. Approximate site size: 22" H x 18" W. Approximate size including frame: 28.25" H x 23" W. Estimate: $3000-$5000, while another is the framed Miro ‘Blue Maze’ Hand Signed c.1956, Joan Miro Lithograph executed for Jacques Prevert in 1956, printed by Mourlot and published in Paris by Maeght. Composition 3, Plate 8.Hand signed bottom right. Approximate site size: 8.5" H x 14.75" W. Approximate size including frame - 14.5" H x 20" W. Estimate: $800-$1000,

In addition, La Belle Epoque will have a very unique Lorenzo Quinn "Trust' Bronze Sculpture on Marble base titled "Trust" by Lorenzo Quinn (Rome, 1966) Marked 773/999 – US. Quinn grew up in the US and Italy working most notably for the United Nations in New York as well as The Vatican. Quinn was commissioned to create a sculpture on the occasion of the 8th Centenary of the death of Saint Anthony (Patron Saint of Travelers).Approximate size: 10" H x 8" D x 12" W. Estimate: $2000-$3000 and a Framed Alfred Steglitz ‘The Flatiron’ Photogravue. Framed Alfred Steglitz ‘The Flatiron’ Camera Work IV circa 1903 Plate 1. Medium: Photogravue Alfred Steglitz 1864-1946. Approximate site size - 6.75" H x 3.25" W. Approximate size including frame - 14.75" H x 12.25" W. Estimate: $1500-$2500.

Decorative items will also have a showing, including a Waylande Gregory Mermaid Vase. Waylande Gregory Large vase with mermaid and fish, USA, circa.1940s, Glazed ceramic. Signed. A select group of over 40 Sports memorabilia lots are being offered, including a a MLB 2000 World Series Yankees Signed Baseball, Major League World Series baseball Autographed by 27 members of the 2000 New York Yankees team including Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, David Justice, Bernie Williams, Roger Clemens, Andy Petite, Mariano Riveram, El Duque, Chuck Knoblauch, Paul O'Neil and Scot Brosius. 'Official Ball of the 2000 World Series, President Allen H Selig, JSA certificate of authenticity, Steiner certificate of authenticity. Approximate size: 3.25" H x 3.25" W. Estimate $1200-1500.

Jewelry and fashion will also be represented, with a stunning Christian Dior Couture Crystal Necklace, purchased directly from the Christian Dior 2001 Runway Collection in original box. Approximate Size : 10" H x 7.5" W. Estimate: $1500-$2500, a Vintage Louis Vuitton Bandouliere 45 Bag. Made in France. Approximate size: 18" x 11" x 8". Estimate $500-$800 and an Authentic Vintage Louis Vuitton Duffel. Estimate $600-900.

Asian art being offered are an authentic Hiroshige 'Hiratsuka' Woodblock Print. Genuine Original Hiroshige Ando (1797-1858) Japanese Woodblock Print; 'Hiratsuka' one of 53 Stations on Tokaido Road (from Tokyo to Kyoto). Printed in 1855. Approximate size including frame: 19.5" H x 14.5" W, Approximate site size: 13.5" H x 8" W. Signed Guaranteed by Y. Yamagami, Manager, Uchida Art Co. Ltd.
