WINDSOR, ENGLAND.- Windsor Castle presents an exhibition of Photographs to Celebrate the 80th Birthday of HM The Queen, on view through March 11, 2007. From formal records of State occasions and official portraits to little-known family photographs and intimate snap-shots, this exhibition from the Royal Photograph Collection traces The Queens public and family life over the past 80 years. Among the many well-known photographers who have captured Her Majestys image are Marcus Adams, Lisa Sheridan, Dorothy Wilding, Cecil Beaton, Patrick Lichfield and HRH The Duke of York. The selection of photographs is complemented by other material, including designs for The Queens image on postage stamps.
Windsor Castle is one of three official residences of The Queen and has been home to the Sovereign for over 900 years. The Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world and the oldest in continuous occupation. The imposing towers and battlements of the Castle loom large from every approach to the town, creating one of the world's most spectacular skylines. No other royal residence has played such an important role in the nation's history.
