Santi Moix, Tangana inside of my backyard. 2023. Installation. Details. Variable measures.

MARSEILLE.- For this edition of ART-O-RAMA, Marlborough presents a dialogue between two artists who promote a multiple ontology. The two selected artists -Pedro Almodóvar and Santi Moix- highlight in their works discourses oriented towards an anti-anthropocentric vision of our relationship with the world in dialogue with Santi Moix’s aritistic practice with filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s photographic work and the delicate drawings by Peruvian artist Rita Ponce de León. In this way, the proposal will be much deeper and interesting to the public of the fair.

The work of Santi Moix (Spain, 1960) is characterized by the accumulation of elements, fragmentation, sensuality, and a poetic sense of form in a flat and dense space to build biomorphic structures that allude to the environmental crisis and the consumption and destruction of nature. In the specific case of Art-o-rama, we will be presenting part of the installation Tangana inside of my backyard (2023), recently exhibited at the Fundació Vila Casas in Barcelona.

Pedro Almodóvar (Spain, 1949) creates compositions with a variety of objects that remind us of the humility of ancient still lifes and at the same time pay homage to many artists, as well as to the designs of the Italian Ettore Sottsass. In the selection presented at ART-O-RAMA, which was exhibited at the Fellini Foundation in Switzerland, Almodóvar uses his compositions of objects to explain the world, his affective world, giving them their place in the cosmos. His still lifes endow these simple objects with “life”, albeit stopped in time and space, to dignify them and elevate them from the category of accessory or tool to autonomous agents that exist independently of human action.

ART-O-RAMA is produced by Fræme, in co-production with La Friche la Belle de Mai.As a key event and gateway for galleries to European art fairs, Art-o-rama offers a unique and demanding selection of emerging local and international art scenes. More than 60 galleries and publishers will be featured in this 17th edition in Marseille and online with the Immaterial Salon, celebrating a brand new section dedicated to contemporary design, and a special programme of screenings and conversations will be proposed for free access during the Art Fair.

At the centre of a beautiful excitement, Art-o-rama offers each year the panorama of an unequalled cultural heritage, an immersion in the leading artistic places of the wider southern region, from Monaco to Montpellier, passing through Arles, Hyères, Nice and of course Marseille.
