AMSTERDAM.- From 31 May - 4 June, Amsterdam transforms into an international hub for art lovers, collectors and artists. The 11th edition of Amsterdam Art Week features a broad programme of exhibitions, openings, performances, lectures and artists' talks at more than 50 locations in the capital. Amsterdam Art Week is one of the largest events for art talent in the Netherlands, showcasing new developments in contemporary art to the public.

"Between 31 May and 4 June, Amsterdam will be a canvas for art talent. All Amsterdammers and (inter)national art lovers can immerse themselves in a multifaceted programme with 80 events for five days." - Martina Halsema, director of Amsterdam Art Week.

More than 50 locations

On Friday 2 June, Amsterdam Art Week bursts into life. Then, until Sunday 4 June, all the doors of 53 galleries, studios, art institutions, museums and special locations in Amsterdam will open, including Oude Kerk, De Appel, GRIMM, AKINCI Gallery, Ellen de Bruijne Projects, Stevenson, Diez Gallery and ISO. Participating artists include; Ryan Gander, Lungiswa Gqunta, Francesca Mollett and Inas Halabi. In collaboration with the Eye Filmmuseum, artists from Amsterdam Art Week galleries and residencies submitted new time based media works for the New Harvest film programme on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June. In this way, contemporary art enters the cinema.

Special opening Allen & Overy and ISO Amsterdam

During 'Goodnight Amsterdam Art' at ISO Amsterdam, an exhibition will be mixed with studio visits by ISO-residents and performances by Anto López Espinosa and Lucía Vives, (both non-binary) and conclude with a DJ set by artist Kévin Bray. International law firm Allen & Overy will open its art collection at Apollo House especially for Amsterdam Art Week, featuring mostly artists from the Amsterdam scene. The collection is normally not accessible for the public.

Artist studios

This year, artists' studios occupy a prominent place at the Art Week. Besides the Rijksakademie Open Studios and De Ateliers, Amsterdam Art Week adds 15 special studio visits to the programme this year, for example those of artists Arturo Kameya, Charlotte Dumas, Saskia Noor van Imhoff, Sarah Mei Herman and Molly Palmer. Three studios will also open up for the public.

#5WomenArtists

During Amsterdam Art Week there will be a particular focus on the female gaze, with tours set up for both VIPs and the public in which female artists are brought to the foreground. These will take place on Saturday 3 June. The events take as their starting point the hashtag #5WomenArtists. Using the hashtag, the campaign calls attention to the fact that women have not been treated equally in the art world, and today they remain dramatically underrepresented and undervalued in museums, galleries, and auction houses. Amsterdam Art is pleased to say that 50% of the artists on show at our galleries are female. The tours are presented in collaboration with Harpers Bazaar and Pillows Hotel.
