The Liu Shiming Scholars Fund at Rutgers University Established to Advance Art Studies

On May 3rd, 2023, the Liu Shiming Art Foundation announced the initiation of the Liu Shiming Scholars Fund in partnership with Rutgers University. The announcement was made during the End-Of-Year celebration of the Art History Department at the Lower Dodge Gallery The scholarship, which will be awarded annually, is aimed at supporting students pursuing a degree in the field of arts at Rutgers University. The recipient of the scholarship this year, Jeanie No, selected by the university, was also revealed during the celebration.

Liu Shiming Art Foundation is a New York-based nonprofit organization founded in 2021 to preserve works by renowned Chinese sculptor Liu Shiming and to advance the global discourse on art, history, and culture. It also aims to empower young and emerging artists and art students by inspiring them to explore different art expressions and engage in the multicultural studies of art history. Furthermore, the foundation hopes to foster a better understanding and appreciation of various art forms and contextualize them from a multicultural perspective.

At the event, the first Liu Shiming Scholarship to Jeanie No, an outstanding student majoring in arts and art history, was awarded. The foundation’s representatives expressed their enthusiasm for the creativity of all art students at the university and their efforts in supporting the arts. The Chair of the department Professor Laura Weigert noted that Rutgers has a focus on equity and diversity, and the scholarship supports this goal by helping students from less privileged backgrounds pursue an education in art history. She emphasized that the collaborative scholarship between the university and the foundation will enable students to pursue their passion for art history at Rutgers every year, with hopes that more students will be able to benefit from it in the future.

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is a highly-ranked public research university that is known for its diversity and academic excellence. The Liu Shiming Art Foundation is dedicated to further enhancing the university's commitment to the arts and providing more opportunities for students to explore this field.

The newly established partnership between the Liu Shiming Art Foundation and Rutgers University represents a significant milestone in arts education at the university. The Liu Shiming Scholarship and other awards acknowledge the exceptional talent and creativity of students in the arts while promoting the foundation's objective of advancing the global conversation surrounding the arts, history, and culture.
