BRUSSELS.- Jan Mot announced the appointment of Antony Hudek as its new gallery director.

Antony joins the founding director, Jan Mot, and the gallery’s team at an exciting juncture. Now in its 27th year, Jan Mot continues to clear new paths for the international artists it represents, who, despite their diversity, have in common a questioning of art’s role in society. Antony will work closely with the gallery’s artists, as well as institutions and collectors, in support of Jan Mot’s abiding aim of bringing complex art to broader attention.

Until recently director of Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (Deurle), Antony has occupied curatorial positions in institutions including M HKA (Antwerp), Objectif Exhibitions (Antwerp), Raven Row (London), and Tate Liverpool. He was formerly director of the postgraduate Curatorial Studies programme at KASK – School of Arts (Ghent), and has taught at numerous art schools and universities, among them Slade School of Fine Art – UCL (London), Royal College of Art (London), John Moores University (Liverpool), and the University of Antwerp.

Antony’s appointment follows several collaborations with Jan Mot over the years. In 2015, he included a piece by Philippe Thomas in an exhibition at Raven Row – the first time the artist’s work was shown in the UK. He also translated in English and published Thomas’ book “Daniel Bosser, Philippe Thomas décline son identité”. In 2015–16, he wrote a series of four texts on queer art historiography for Newspaper Jan Mot. In 2022, he organised with Manon de Boer her first solo museum exhibition in Belgium, at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (Blindsight – Manon de Boer in dialogue with Latifa Laâbissi and Laszlo Umbreit).

“I am thrilled and honoured to be able to work for Jan Mot, a gallery committed from the first to defending artistic quality over its commercial currency. Rare among galleries, Jan Mot favours the long term, values research and scholarship, and above all seeks to further the understanding of essential contemporary art.”
