Roland Auctions NY's first sale of the year on January 7th focuses on Mid-Century-Modern

GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY in Glen Cove, NY is presenting their first auction of the New Year on January 7th at 10am, with a strong focus on Contemporary and Modern Art and an impressive selection of Mid-Century Modern furniture.

Getting much of the spotlight already is a monumental outdoor “Shark” sculpture, measuring 18 Ft. in length, by contemporary artist RISK (Kelly Graval). Roland will also feature works by D*Face, Andy Warhol, KAWS, Dale Chihuly, Lucio Fontana, Flo Perkins, DAIN, Martiros Saryan, along with hundreds of lots of Fine Art, Decorative Arts, 20th Century Modern, Antique & Vintage Furniture, Textiles, Silver, Gold and Silver Jewelry, Rugs, Collectibles, Asian Art and Decorative Arts, and Lighting. Previews will be held on Thursday, January 5th and Friday, January 6th from 10am - 6pm.

This “Shark” (2018) made from found metal objects, is one of the artist’s first Shark sculptures, was first exhibited on the collector’s Long Island property where it still stands and will be auctioned directly from the property, through Roland Auctions NY in Glen Cove on the North Shore of Long Island. The piece is estimated at $100,000 - $150,000.

Along with the RISK “Shark” sculpture, Fine and Contemporary Art offerings at Roland on January 7th will include a Jean Dufy (French, 1888-1964) oil on canvas painting titled "Clown", signed lower left with labels to reverse. [Sight: 16 1/4" H x 8" W; Frame: 23 1/2" H x 15 1/4" W]. (Est. $8,000-$12,000), a Childe Hassam (American, 1859-1935) watercolor titled "Blossoms" (or Woodland Pond); inscribed, signed and dated upper right, with gallery and auction labels to reverse, 1933. [Sight: 11 3/8" H x 18" W; Frame: 18" H x 25 1/8" W]. (Est. $20,000-$30,000), a D*Face (Dean Stockton, English, b. 1978) emulsion, enamel, and collaged reclaimed street posters on wooden panel, titled "Wall Hugger 2". "Wall Hugger 1" sold at Christies, 4/19/20, for $22,500. [Art: 60" H x 48" W; Frame: 62" H x 49 1/2" W]. (Est. $10,000-$20,000) and a Martiros Saryan (Armenian, 1880-1972) oil on canvas painting of a mountain and valley landscape with oxen and plow in the foreground, signed lower left and dated, 1921. [23 1/2" H x 19 1/2" W]. (Est. $10,000-$15,000).

Additional pieces featured are a Retna (Marquis Lewis, American, b. 1979) watercolor on paper, titled "Sunrisas Azules," 2014; signed lower right. [Art: 40" H x 60" W: Frame: 45" H x 65" W]. (Est. $20,000 - $40,000), a ROUBOUD: Figural Street Scene - Oil on Canvas, Orientalist/Bedouin market street scene with a man on a horse, signed lower right, F. Rouboud. [35 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W]. (Est. $5,000-$7,000) and a superb Dale Chihuly (American, b. 1941): "Imperial Iris Persian" sculpture, two-piece purple sculpture with green lip, titled "Imperial Iris Persian", smaller piece monogrammed and signed, pp. 99. [Outer piece: 8" H x 11 3/4" W x 12" D; Inner piece, approx.: 1 3/4" H x 4 1/2" W]. (Estimate $4,500 - $5,500).

Also making a prominent showing at this month’s auction, Roland presents a very impressive Mid-Century Modern furniture selection including a Warren Platner for Knoll "Throne" lounge chair, mid-century modern design with molded shell seat, over a steel rod cage base; label under cushion. [39" H x 40" W x 37" D]. (Est. $4,500-$6,500), an Adrian Pearsall walnut "Crescent" lounge chair and ottoman, mid-century modern design with "grasshopper" arc legs around the recently upholstered Hallingdal upholstery, labels to underside; model 748-LB and 748-FS for Craft Associates. Rare to be offered with its ottoman. [Chair: 30 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W x 50" D; Ottoman: 12" H x 26 1/2" W x 16" D]. (Est. $4,000-$5,000) and a Vladimir Kagan art deco-style chaise lounge, mid-century modern design with barrel tufted sections and asymmetrical arms, raised on an acrylic plank base. [28" H x 68" W x 31" D]. (Est. $4,500-$6,500).
