Jimmie Durham, Head, 2006. Wood, paper mache, hair, seachells, turquoise, armadillo shell, human dentures, metal tray, 25 x 40 x 40 cm.

NAPLES.- Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee, in cooperation with Fondazione Morra Greco, as part of the 2022-2023 edition of Progetto XXI, presents Jimmie Durham: And now, so far in the future That no one will recognize Any of my jokes, -an oblique narrative of Durham’s artistic work, thought and political activism, of his readings, attitudes, and positions. The exhibition began will begin on December 23rd, and continue through to April 10th.

Conceived as a counterpoint to and in dialogue with the retrospective Jimmie Durham: humanity is not a completed project, curated by Kathryn Weir, which simultaneously opens at Madre, the Campania Region’s museum of contemporary art, the exhibition presents sculptures from the Fondazione Morra Greco Collection, poems, writings, objects, prints, photographs, carpets, books, videos, documents... by/of/with Jimmie Durham: a reflection on the exhibition as a genre and a common space for sharing aesthetic experience and knowledge.

Graphic design of the poems in the exhibition: Julia Born. Italian translation: Sacha Piersanti. Progetto XXI is the platform through which the Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee has aimed, since 2012, to explore on the one hand emerging artistic production, in its theoretical-practical realisation, and on the other hand the most seminal artistic practices of the last decades, in their exemplary methodological proposal.

The project contributes to the production and dissemination of alternative narratives and historiographies of the contemporary and to the definition of a regional system of contemporary arts based on collaboration and interchange between public and private institutions operating in the Campania Region.

The exhibition is fully financed with POC (PROGRAMME OPERATIVO COMPLEMENTARE) Regione Campania funds.
