TOULON.- As part of the 2022 Emerige Revelations exhibition presented in Toulon, the jury, gathered by the villa Noailles, awarded the
villa Noailles Prize for the 2022 Emerige Revelations to
Gillian Brett, as well as a special mention to Nefeli Papadimouli.
Gillian Brett will benefit from a residency within the territory of the Métropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée and more particularly at the villa Noailles. The fruit of this residency will be presented in a solo show by the artist at the Ancien Évêché de Toulon in December 2023, produced by the villa Noailles together with its local partners. Special Mention of the Jury, Nefeli Papadimouli will be invited to present her work in the form of a performance for the 38th International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories Hyères.
The Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolis, which prioritises Culture, and the Villa Noailles Contemporary Art Centre of National Interest have welcomed the Emerige Revelations Grant exhibition to Toulon since 8 December 2022, and will continue to present it until 11 February 2023.
This project plays an active part in the cultural dynamic of the region and is one of the highlights of the Hôtel des Arts art centre of the TPM Metropole, a remarkable building built in the early 1900s, whose artistic programme is offered by the Villa Noailles.
Thus, each year, the presentation of the design collections of the Georges Pompidou Centre, the Emerige Revelations Grant and an exhibition of designers drawings constitute a multidisciplinary cultural offer accessible to all in the heart of the city of Toulon. In addition, one of the artists of the 2022 selection, chosen by a jury brought together by the Villa Noailles, will then be invited to a residence at the Villa Noailles in 2023. The art centre is thus further affirming its vocation alongside young artists, presenting their work, and providing them with long-term support.
The love of art
The art centre villa Noailles and the Emerige Revelations Grant share common values: supporting, promoting and helping young creators. This year, they are 12 to compete for the villa Noailles Prize of the Emerige Revelations. For the third consecutive year, this prize allows an artist to benefit from a 3-month residency at the villa Noailles, to produce an exhibition held at the Ancien Évêché de Toulon, therefore helping to fully integrate the Emerige Revelations into the Toulon territory, in collaboration with local associate partners". - Jean-Pierre Blanc
The villa Noailles Prize for the 2021 Emerige Revelations was awarded to the artist Cécile Guettier. Her solo show is on display at the Ancien Évêché de Toulon, together with the 9th edition of the 2022 Emerige Revelations at the Hôtel des Arts TPM.
Gillian Bretts work focuses on the complex and delicate relationship between humans and technology. She is particularly interested in the ways in which technology irrevocably shapes the world around us. Her works, mostly composed of the debris of electronic and mechanical devices, tell us how, despite its seemingly immaterial nature, digital and technological disaster remains firmly linked to material reality. While inviting us to nostalgically contemplate the lost dreams, broken promises and weaknesses of a technology-dependent society.
