LONDON.- Photo London’s Founders Michael Benson and Fariba Farshad announced their collaboration with Creo for the launch of PHOTOFAIRS New York. Lending their expert knowledge and creative insights, Benson and Farshad have furthered their alliance with Creo since partnering last February for Photo London.

Launched by Creo in partnership with Angus Montgomery Arts and in collaboration with Photo London, the inaugural edition of the PHOTOFAIRS New York will take place on September 8-10, 2023 at the Javits Center, Manhattan’s West side. Dedicated to presenting a state-of-the-art view of visual culture, the Fair’s strong curatorial approach will create a new platform where photography and new technologies intersect.

Strengthening the PHOTOFAIRS New York’s cross-cultural collaborations and creative dialogue, Benson and Farshad exclaim their enthusiasm for the news: ‘We are thrilled to be extending our partnership with Creo and Angus Montgomery Arts through the development of this exciting new fair in New York. In seeking to break down the tired old barriers between photography and contemporary art, the New York fair precisely corresponds to our own view of what a 21st century photography fair should be. That this is happening in New York is particularly important because the city has always been a special place for us. It was the first place we came to when we launched Photo London in 2014. We have since held countless collector events in the city; working with organisations like ICP, the Met, Aperture and the Core Club. Three recipients of our Master of Photography Award – Stephen Shore, Taryn Simon and Shirin Neshat – are based in New York; each of them move easily between photography and other art forms.’

Speaking about the launch of the fair, Jeff Rosenheim, Curator in Charge of the Department of Photographs, Metropolitan Museum of Art, says: ‘This is truly exciting news. New York’s enthusiasm for photography is almost unbounded. There are likely more galleries representing photographers in New York City than anywhere else in the world. The holdings of photography in the city’s many museums are amongst the world’s finest, and of course New York is home to many great photographers, collectors, and patrons of the medium. This will bring new energy to the fall season in New York and I very much look forward to seeing the results in September next year.’
