COSTA MESA, CA.- Heidi Zuckerman, CEO and Director of the
Orange County Museum of Art, today announced the naming of pivotal gifts, which include key spaces in the museums new building, which opens on October 8 with general admission free to the public. The named spaces recognize the generous leadership gifts made in support of the museums new home, designed by Morphosis under the direction of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne and Partner-in-Charge Brandon Welling located on the campus of Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California.
As we prepare to welcome people to our beautiful new home, we are so grateful for our many leadership donors who are making this new chapter in the life of OCMA possible, said Zuckerman. We are honored to recognize their extraordinary generosity to support the completion of our spectacular new building, and we cant wait for the public to see what they have helped create.
It is so gratifying to see the heartfelt support from our community helping make this dream a reality, said Craig Wells, President of OCMAs Board of Trustees. I cant imagine a better way to celebrate our 60th Anniversary than with the opening of this incredible new space and welcoming many new members into our OCMA family.
The museums two exhibition pavilions will be named The Anton and Jennifer Segerstrom Permanent Collection Pavilion and The Muzzy Family Special Exhibitions Pavilion. Each pavilion contains four flexible galleries and can accommodate artworks of a variety of scales and mediums. The terrace level event space which encompasses the Verdant Café will be named Chalmers Pavilion.
Additional named spaces include:
· Galleries within The Anton and Jennifer Segerstrom Permanent Collection Pavilion, including The Fry Family Gallery, The Ken and Stephanie Grody Gallery, The Lucy Sun and Warren Felson Gallery, and The RD Olson Family Gallery, in which OCMAs California Biennial 2022: Pacific Gold will be on view,
· The Avenue of the Arts Gallery, In Memory of Yvonne de C Segerstrom (a window lined gallery facing Avenue of the Arts), where California Biennial 2022: Pacific Gold will also be installed
· Galleries within The Muzzy Family Special Exhibitions Pavilion, including The Hal Struck Gallery, The Henry Davis and Christina Fazzone Gallery, The Jeri and Danny McKenna Gallery, and The Linda and Tod White Gallery, in which the exhibition 13 Women will be on view
· The James B. and Rosalyn L. Pick Gallery (mezzanine level), in which Fred Eversley: Reflecting Back (the World) will be on view
· The Barbara Bluhm-Kaul and Don Kaul Terrace Landing (an outdoor space at the foot of the Grand Staricase)
· The Sweet James Bergener Bar located within the Chalmers Pavilion event space
· The Croul Family Education Seating (Education Pavilion)
· The David L. Horowitz Family Patio outside the entrance to the museum facing Richard Serras Connector
· Bill Witte and Keiko Sakamoto Shop (lobby)
· The Barbara and Alex Bowie Façade (Avenue of the Arts façade)
Additional leadership gifts were made by Lugano Diamonds, The Ahmanson Foundation, The Samueli Foundation Henry and Susan Samueli, Jean and Tim Weiss and Kelly and David Emmes.
These donors will be honored for their generosity at the Million Dollar Donor Dinner chaired by Jennifer and Anton Segerstrom and sponsored by Cartier on September 27, 2022. This will be the first event on the completed site and will be catered by the Mix Mix, led by be Executive Chef Ross Pangilinan who is also helming OCMAs café Verdant with Nick Weber.
OCMAs new home, with more than twice the exhibition space of its previous location, is a 53,000 square-foot-building featuring 25,000 square feet of exhibition space, as well as 10,000 square feet for education programs, performances and public gatherings.
OCMA opens to the public with a 24-Hour Party beginning at 5:00 p.m. on October 8. The opening celebration will feature a variety of activities over the course of the opening, including a silent dance party, musical performances, food trucks, art making, guided tours, Movies for Insomniacs, and Sunrise Yoga. Admission is free to OCMA.
